Yup, he was quite good at Monaco, obviously he was very talented. But he really didn't perform to the level he did at the WC, he certainly did not justify his 45M price tag.

Obviously he's justified it now that he got sold for almost double the price, but my point is, he didn't justify it in terms of performances over last season.

He had 9 goals and 12 assists, at the age of 22. The 45 million fee was obviously a bit overpayed, he came from Porto and they're an oil club, but I wouldn't say it wasn't justified, they were in a large part paying for potential.

Yes its true that they were paying mostly for his potential, the point I was trying to make, was you'd never expect him to turn in the world class performances in the WC, based on his season at Monaco, which admittedly is the all I've seen of him, never watched him play for Porto.
