From what I saw in the last two years, there is quite a big number of young English players who play on regular basis for the best English teams. That will undoubtedly make them better players, who were coached by top coaches, played some top level matches against the very best and will have the needed experience. It's just that I don't see a pure talent there and that's exactly what the English lacked over the years. When one looks at the other big teams, a talent can easily be spotted among their youngsters. In England I fail to see those talents.

As we discussed it some time ago, things will change only when those talents (and there undoubtedly are such kids in such a populated country) will be preferred by the coaches at very young age. When the coaches start preferring those kids to the physically stronger and fast kids, and when England changes the mentality and puts the ball on the ground more, England will start doing well.

But I found it interesting that even an English fan doesn't hype this generation of youngsters.
There are plenty that do though. There are enough individuals who appear talented to have them think that England will be competitive in the future at the very top.

1989: T. Walcott, A. Carroll, C. Smalling, T. Cleverly, D. Sturridge
1990: M. Kelly, K. Walker, D. Welbeck
1991: J. Rodwell, S. Caulker, N. Clyne
1992: P. Jones, J. Shelvey, W. Zaha, J. Wilshere,
1993: A. Oxlade-Chamberlain, J. Butland, R. Barkley, J. McEachran, C. Wickham
1994: N. Chalobah, N. Redmond, N. Powell, R. Sterling

They do have some good young players, as individuals. I see only real star quality in 2-3, and some are already proven to be not that great. The 93' and 94' generation may well be the best for a long time.

On the other hand there are those that see there is a current dearth of talent for the full team, and it'll be 4-6 years before we see that bunch near their peak.

Having said all that, the collective England is a real problem, the style of football is weak and outdated.

That is already happening at youth and grass routs level mate.

Wiltshire and Ross Barkley are the 2 that look very promising.

One you will know more about, have a look for Ross Barkley's footage. The kid loves to pass, and has great vision, and touch. Their is a great vidoe of him for England V Greece, shows his every touch. You can see he has technical ability.

Thats a very good post.

Also a problem is the attitude, that we think we 'Should be winning things' and we 'should be better than all the other nations'. Considring we have not really ever threatened to win a tournament!!!

I'll check it out.

Oh, and despite his mega failure, I think England needs more Joe Cole type of talents.

How does their defense lineup now ?

Piris?-Castan-Burdisso-Balzaretti..

Much better than what they had last year definitely.

Shockingly, Roma have made a signing for their defense that I actually rate.
Doesn't look like Roma type of signing IMO. But he's 30 and his contract is expiring, it's kinda expensive.

This Castan guy is gonna be great from what I saw against Liverpool. :p He really looks very good.

With Zeman coaching Roma, those guys you mentioned can only play as goalkeepers. They are too defensive to be defenders.
Totti and Osvaldo on the other hand....

It's good short term value in Serie A.

I don't know how they're going to line up defensively, but I've noticed they have three left backs now. Not sure what happens next. What do you think?

So what ? 4.5m is not expensive doesnt matter if he had an expiring contract..
He's not getting any younger, it surely isn't cheap.

The annual Dusan post about Roma's mercato.
Not really.

A friendly against Liverpool reserves? :D He does look to have a good all round game, but he'll be judged on how well he can defend, just like every other Serie A defender.
Yeah I know, I just say from what I saw :)
