Santon will be depressed in Newcastle. Didn't Jay say that the only thing to do in Newcastle is to watch the games? :D

Also Pjanic is a great signing by Roma. Born 1990 so he has all the time in the world. I guess this is their 3rd choice for offensive midfielder after failing to get Pastore and Gaston Ramirez? Great 3rd choice. Wish Marotta could learn a thing or two about plan b and c.
:D They also have a great nightlife scene, bunch of pissed up Geordie birds crawling around on the pavement, what more could a boy want?

Or an additional offensive signing on top of Lamela, Bojan, Osvaldo.

They're bringing in a lot of youngsters, imagine how patient Roma fans will have to be. This forum would have collapsed after the EL failure.
This forum never collapsed after two straight 7th places, I think we'd survive being without the mighty Europa League.

"Germany coach Joachim Low has confirmed he has given permission for Per Mertesacker to leave the national squad in order to travel to London to have a medical at Arsenal. The Werder Bremen defender had been preparing for Germany's Euro 2012 qualifier against Austria on Friday"-Sky
Rumour is £22m...

So Bundesliga followers, how good is he? Should we be excited by this signing? He's 27 and has over 70 caps for the German NT i heard, he can't be bad.

Slow, quite clumsy, not a great marker.

Strong in the air and decent positionally, though.

Would be a fine player for a more defensive team, but his lack of pace could be exposed since Arsenal tend to leave their CBs with quite a lot of space to cover.

Pretty good CB, but not one I would say is well suited to Arsenal.

Aha, my exact same perception of him. We really do need a whole tactical makeover. Its all good playing a high line when you have midfielders that can actually retain possession effectively and press the ball hard when not in possession. Our midfield does neither, so it makes absolutely no sense playing a high line. We should bring in Mertesacker, but we should definitely change the way we play, our midfielders aren't good enough to control games anymore.

I doubt we'd pay that much for him. The way i understand it is, we're moving for him as a second resort because Cahill is so expensive, with that money we can definitely go for Cahill

Sky is reporting that it's 10 million pounds. Which makes way more sense.

That's true.

Sitting a little deeper can also help to draw out the opposition a little, giving more potential for counter attacks or to generally create more space for the forwards.
