that is precisely what they did with nigel de jong as well, they could have gotten him for a around 5 million, instead spent 18 mill :howler:

The Man City Sporting Director is the opposite of Marotta. The guy goes in, and overpays (even if there is no competition) just to ensure that the deal is sealed. Marotta waits and ponders, until a gazillion clubs voice interest in the same target, and then he gladly surrenders.

Oh, and in no way is this an attack on Marotta. It's merely an observation, and I actually feel what City are doing is ridiculous and beyond reason.
