Well, to play devil's advocate here, when Man Utd went public a few years ago, fans of the club laughed at the rest of the world and told us poorer folk that they were now the richest club in the world, and this was due to the huge cash injection that came thru their IPO. It was fun for them back then, and they left a lot of other clubs furiously scratching their heads and wondering if going public wasn't the way of the future. The fans however forgot about the back door that makes a public company fair game to any investor with the right kind of financial muscle.

That is exactly what has happened here. Glazer has come in and done what was required: He bought all the major investors out with an offer they just couldn't resist. What he's done is completely legal, and he's breached no ethichs, or anything of the sort. While his motives are no higher than any rapacious pirate, he's not broken any laws. Some would argue that the current state of affairs is exaclty what Man Utd deserves.

There is, however, an outside chance that the fans will be able to throw a monkey wrench in Glazer's works. The major plank of Glazer's takeover is his plan to take Man Utd private and transfer the costs of acquiring the club to the club itself. This will mean that Man Utd will be in massive debt, around half a billion pounds. That's where the fans come in. Shareholders United own about 20% of the club. They have the legal right to go to court and petition that the club should not be allowed to go private under the Minority Protection Rules of company law.

Should they succeed, it wont stop the takeover as that's already occured, but it will prevent him from riding Man Utd rodeo style. It will keep the company public, and subject to the more stringent standards required of public companies.

if he manages.....

ManU will have £ 127.000 in interest payments PER DAY, excluding any capital repayment. Thats 46 000 000 a year which is three times more than current anual profit of ManU.

he better be a finacial wizard or something......

The Glazers know what they are doing.

The LAST thing that they would do is run Man U into the ground.

Malcom Glazer took the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who for the last 3 decades, as many NFL fans would know, were the absolute laughing stock of the league, into one of the most profitable teams in the NFL, whilst also bringing home a Super Bowl trophy, and a brand new, state of the art stadium to Tampa in the process.

Now, Tampa is one of the pre-eminent hot spots for free agents when they are out of contract. The reason for that is NOT because the weather is nice in Tampa, but because players feel like that is a place they want to be.

He knows how to build a winner, he knows how to hire the right people as far as coaching, scouting and talent evaluators, and he knows how to make money. He is also a hands-off type of owner, meaning that he will let his people do what needs to be done, and doesn't need to have his face on TV or quotes in the paper just to let people know that he is still around.

There are a lot of franchises in the US that would LOVE to have a Malcom Glazer as the owner of their franchise. In fact, he was very very close to purchasing the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, but NFL rules stated that an NFL owner cannot also own a MLB franchise as well.

This whole "Death to Malcom Glazer" nonsense is beyond retarded.

And think about this for a second. An American owner who has control of an English football team is doing this to lose money?? Take a look at the major sports in the US, and a very, very small percentage of these franchises are losing money, and the ones that are certainly do not have an owner who is the caliber of Malcom Glazer.

I agree, I dont want Glazer to take over MU coz it could make MU a stronger club IMO,

Now I dont know whether its exactly the same when he dealt with the Buccaneers, doesnt the NFL have the salary cap thing? Which pretty much meant each team were restricted to spending the same amount of money for wages? Which also meant that he didnt really inject much money to the team?

I think he would probably keep a more strict financial structure over MU to try to maximize the profits, ofcourse he will also do the marketing so that MU will gain more income and I'm pretty optimistic that the "American" mentality and strategy for marketing/selling brand names and franchises will succeed. Dont expect him to be no Abramovich and spend millions to buy star players without thinking much on returns though.

That is precisely what makes the Man U fans nervous. They look at Chelsea and see a fairy Godfather handing out glass slippers and pumpkin carriages. Then they look at Glazer and all they can see is Lord Farquad.

MU have always been tight assed anyways, can hardly get any worse. If he is plugging that kind of money into the club to buy it i'm sure he will free up alot of transfer funds.

Glazer isn't coming to hand out money to allow Man Utd re-establish themselves as a football powerhouse. He's here to make money. Loads of it.

Yeah, Im pretty sure of that, but what I was saying is that Malcom will do his share of Business for MU, Marketing and Brand Imaging. And that is what HE will do that ABRAMOVICh is not doing. And that will make MU grow, especially if he markets MU to the US.

I think Glazer will insert alot of the comercial aspects of sports in the US to MU, thus makin MU more 'sellable'. I dont think he will keep to tight of a leash on club spending but when the club makes 10 times what it is making now on merchandising and licensed rights, he will likely only out a milliscule back to the club.

He will make a Juventus management out of the club(interms of transfer money). But he will probably make Manchester United look like the BEST TEAM in the WORLD, at least that'll be his brand imaging strategy, and with the US still not so familiar with european soccer(atleast I think), there is a big market to break through and conquer.

I kinda doubt that he will free up alot for transfer funds. i doubt that he knows the worth of transfer funds. The US sports system does not have this sort of player transfer (if Im not mistaken), they usually trade players not buy them.

Thats why I think MU's management will be like ours, like moggi..looking for good free bees and cheap hot talents. Coz hey, thats great Business. I do it in CM all the time, buy cheap sell expensive, makes lotta profit. :groan: ofcourse I keep telling myself I dont need to target a profitable season coz I wont get the money enyways, duuuhh.:groan:

Glazer is not only out there to destoy United's financials but the entire EPL as well. If he breaks the EPL collective TV rights agreement clubs other than the usual Top 4 will get as messed up financially as their italian counterparts. He is not only the enemy of Man Utd but also of teams such as Southampton, Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle. Maybe supporters of other teams should join in and let their disapproval be heard.

True, they almost never sell players for money. But that is also a very cruel to the players. During the transfer season the players are living with their things packed knowing that any day they can receive a call from the boss telling them to move 2000 miles and be ready for training next morning. It seems they don't have much of a choice, once the deal between the clubs is made the player has to sign for them. The trades in USA often involve several players, usually players who are just there to make the trade go through and who doesn't actually have a function in the new team. If Lazio wants to buy Nedved they'd have to offer us at least four players to make the trade equal, but we do not need four players. Money makes things so much easier and the american system is a stone-age system really.

:howler:

Yep, Glazer wants to and will succeed in destroying the whole EPL. Makes a lot of sense.

At least that post gives us something to hope for.
