thats like saying every time you think Del Piero has been great, you remember his penalty miss against Roma.

No-ones starting place should be guaranteed, but someone else has to step up and prove they can do better.
No it's not really as that was one of the few DP's incidents, whereas it was just one of hundreds of blunders Legrotaglie did. He's got a long history of being unreliable and mistake prone, that doesn't change in just one season.

I don't mind keeping but his position is the primary one that needs upgrading. Buy a class center-back, than let's see what Legro is made of. I don't wanna enter the season with him as first choice, just too see him get back to his ways.

I agree with vlatko here, I wouldn't mind keeping him as backup, but I am not yet convinced he should be a starting CB, especially not since we will play CL and if we want to challenge for the title.
We need to invest in quality next summer, we have enough quantity.

Time will tell.

I don't expect us to sign a top quality CB and I'm not particularly concerned about that.

Why wouldnt you be? Its a miracle we have survived so well with so many average defenders. We HEAVILY rely on our defence to be a strict unit, but individually they have been mistake prone and cant hack it a top level (teams like Empoli in coppa EMBARRASSED us). Upgrade is VITAL for any future ambition in league and CL.

Because I think Legrottaglie can maintain his form.

Chiellini will only get better. Zebina is solid. We will get a new LB. We will have Sissoko and, hopefully, Flamini protecting the defence.

If I recall rightly, Empoli embarrassed our second choice defence.

Zebina-Legrottaglie-Chiellini-?(Grosso)

Grygera-Mellberg-Andrade-De Ceglie

is good enough for the moment.

Legro was an emergency CB out of desperate necessity, he stepped up and did a decent job. But we should NOT stop our barr that low. He should be at best squad CB if we want to go anywhere next season. Upgrade is needed because even if he holds the same solid level, its not ENOUGH. Our defence is way to fragile to settle with someone in Legro's level.

Everyone talks about upgrading and how we have too many average players to win against the smaller teams, well, CB is the most IMPORTANT position to upgrade. Our defence works as unity to minimise mistakes, individually the players are average and them missing their positions too often is why we conceade too much. Just look at Milans counter attack goals, EVERYONE were out of position, has happend alot this season. Individually dont cut it, just function strictly as a unit, but is way too fragile.

Osman, defence is all about functioning as a unit.

This coming season, Serie A should remain the priority and I believe Legro is good enough for that.

For the following season, I would want us to sign a top class CB to mount a serious challenge for the CL.

It is all about gradually improving the squad and, for the moment, I would concentrate on other areas. If the opportunity presented itself to sign a great CB for a sensible price now, I would take it.However, I don't see that happening.

There IS no other areas to concentrate on, our midfield is way better off then our average defence. Our attack is great, our defence is our major weakness. You surely have noticed how vulnerable our defence is, you cant be this unambitious. Its not about gradually improving the team, that you do if you have more then average defenders, but since we only have those, we need vital CB upgrade.

Legro has served us well as good as he can, but look at the defenders of all the top teams, and look at ours, that should be ENOUGH to show you the obvious.

Its totally another issue us struggling to sign a quality CB (we struggled for this season due to being newly promoted, could only get Andrade but now with CL, much easier), but we should make it a top priority. You dont have to sign the best in the position to get an upgrade, just better then what we have, and there are plently. Its well enough to have a defence that functions as a unit, as all of them should, but its even more vital they are of individual quality. Ours ISNT.

I agree that the defence needs to be upgraded.

However, I would argue that the CBs are far less of a problem than the full backs in terms of the goals that we have conceded.

I believe a LB (Grosso), a CM (Flamini) and a striker (Amauri) would be a good transfer campaign.

If a good option for CB becomes available, and we have the funds to get him, it would be great.

I think the real problem with our defense is that we have too many ok options with no real standout that we would feel comfortable against any team in the world.. Sure Andrade, Stendardo, Legro, Grygera & Melberg are good but in having 4 "ok" players we dont have the CB we need in the shape of say a Cannavaro or another player that would be one of the first players picked.. I believe Secco's biggest mistake was in getting Andrade because he did not provide that role where we so badly needed a world class player if we were serious about winning. further than that, Legrottaglie has confused the situation a whole lot more by performing, it would of been so much easier if he had sucked and it would be entirly clear that we need a CB with individual quality to match our ambitions, which should be the top.. SO now we are stuck with 4 or 5 "ok" players and the need to buy a class CB has diminshed as we could kinda get through a seria A campaign with the likes of Melberg, Andrade, Dardo & Legro, who knows if all are fit and there is strong competition it might produce the player we are looking for but i doubt that given that the qualities of the "ok" players is just that.. Oh i am assuming Chiellini permantly owns the other CB role which is think is just

good post!
i agree, Legro has put the management in a difficult situation by performing we well as he has since coming in for our expensive signing Andrade.
IMO we must still sign one world class centre back for next season. Stendardo has impressed but i wouldnt be too upset if Lazio decided to keep him. Chiellini will take up one CB position, and our new signing will be his partner with Legro as backup. Then there is Criscito... i dunno what to think about him, maybe we should let him stay at Genoa for one more season and get even more serie a experience. We have Mellberg joining which leaves us with more OK backup.
My view for next seasons back 4: grygera - ? - chiellini - ?
sign one quality CB, and one quality LB (preferably Grosso, Evra or Zambrotta?)

Legrottaglie: We're Unstoppable

Nicola Legrottaglie says that Juventus have been "unstoppable" in recent weeks, and believes that had the season not been ending so soon they could have achieved an even better position in the league.

The Bianconeri made it four wins on the bounce in Turin yesterday afternoon as they thrashed hapless Lazio 5-2. This result means that Juve are now certain of a place in the Champions League next season.

"When you reach an objective it's because everyone has done his part, from the players to those who work behind the scenes," said Legrottaglie, who has been one of the club's surprise performers this campaign.

"The team really deserves to be commended for what they've done. Next year we'll try to do even better, but we know it won't be easy. Our objective will be to erase the small gap with the teams in front of us."

Third-placed Juve still have hope of catching Roma in front of them, and Legrottaglie believes that even more could have been achieved if the season wasn't ending in three games.

"It's a shame that the League is ending, with a few more games we could've improved our position even more, seeing how we're playing: after that win at the San Siro [against Inter] we've been unstoppable," the 31-year-old concluded.
