Fabio Rochemback has been cleared to play for Middlesbrough in the Uefa Cup after an appeal over his eligibility, says BBC Radio Cleveland.

The Brazilian midfielder was ruled out after playing for Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League qualifying round.

Boro appealed as Sporting were knocked out at the early stages of both the Champions League and Uefa Cup.

He is now eligible to play in the game with VfB Stuttgart in the last 32 of the competition on 16 February.

The 24-year-old former Barcelona player played in the Lisbon team that dumped Boro out of last year's tournament at the last 16 stage, and also scored in their quarter-final win over Newcastle.
