When you follow a certain national team since you were 8 or 10 years old, and you keep on following that team through all the miseries they went through, a feeling of support starts to grow. Of course it reamins different than the affection towards your own national team but still, there will be stronger feelings involved.

I like the example that Erik made about Lichtenshtein, but I can give you another example of my home country. I have the same situation as a native from Lichtenshtein. Apart from watching the games on TV, I've been to my country's WC qualifications for the past 2 world cups and I cannot but say that I left the stadium with tears in my eyes.

Do you still consider following another nation's NT retarted?
Do you wanna point out where exactly I said it was retarded??

I didnt, Claire did, I simply agree with the sentiment, as does andy and nick in their posts...

As we've allready talked about this elsewhere i really dont see your need for me to repeat it...

But no i do not understand supporting another national team... Its ridiculous...

Obviously to prefer other teams is one thing, but to support another one is imo disgraceful ...

So what your nation isnt very good... I know loads of people that support N.I or wales... What have they ever had to be happy about... Its your country... thats all there is too it... Support of your nation doesnt end with a lack of success

To support another nation because yours is rubbish is also the epitome of glory hunting... and as such a very filthy taste..

You did not say it was retarded but you agreed with what Claire said.

What is wrong in supporting another country when your own country is not playing?

Then again, what I said was following the other country so long that certain feelings have developed. And by doing that did I mention that I don't support my country anymore? No, I didn't and still the first country I support is MY country and no other.

Call it whatever you want, I am a fan of the Azzurri and I follow their games and I want them to win any tournament they are in as long as my country is not playing there.

What I mean in reality is the fan does not really care about the club unless it's winning, therefore he doesn't actually care for the club. This also has to do with not caring about the traditions of the club, etc.
But how do you know someone is like that ?
As for traditions etc... That is indeed something i personally hold dear...

But if you say that anyone that doesnt know and care about the clubs history is a glory hunter... Are you not indeed saying that one helluva percentage of people here are glory hunters ?? For its clearly obvious that many on this board have no idea what the traditions of this club are and what it stands for... Does this really nake one a glory hunter ?

It depends really. If the first child grew up attending Hellas matches with his father and then decided to switch to Inter during adulthood that could be considered a case of glory hunting.

You really have a thing about parks ,dont you... I hope one day you will have the opportunity of seeing a few matches from each side of the city... maybe you will see his views on certain fans arent the general consensus amongst away fans travelling to the city... But anyway...

You really think so... if that child chose inter as he/she was drawn to them and stayed with them for life... is he really a glory hunter jus cause he strayed from his fathers path ??

Biggest case of gloryhunting would be following Juventus up to 2003 then switching to Milan just cuz they won the CL...that is pathetic.
Lol.. indeed, sadly lots do...

I first started to like Juve in 1998 after I watched the CL Final with Real Madrid....that was the first European club match I ever saw. I loved watching Zidane in that specifc match and because I did not really know much about club football from 98 until 2000 Juventus just stuck with me as the team I first saw. I did not become a hardcore fan until about 2000 and for some reason I became even more of a fan when we lost Zidane, my favorite absolute player.
Honestly, im not really sure what point you are trying to make with that one... Care to clarify ?

As for Juve successes in that period...I'm sure you know Paul. When we lost Zidane I thought the world was going to end. :D
Whilst many cheered...

Interesting...your probably right. The real supporters will stick with their club through thick and thin, and it would be a true test for Juventini if Juventus indeed go through a bad spell. If worse comes to worst and the Elkann brothers somehow fail to keep the club successful after the Triade leaves office, we could see an unsuccessful era ahead of us....anything is possible.

I recall a lot of Samp supporters discussing their feelings after their Era "D'Oro" ended in the 90's and how they have stuck with their club all the way to this day...inspiring stuff I suppose.
To me the bad times are the true test of a fans support...

Which is why i have a soft spot for inter fans and liverpool fans... Both suffering for many years waiting for that constant promise of success ,allways to be left dissapointed...

They are real fans... As to be fair are the likes of napoli, fiorentina, roma etc
