No ones actually mentioned the thoughts those that really matter in all this...

HEYSEL SCARS DIFFICULT TO HEAL
Otello Lorentini, the founder and president of the Association for Victims of the Heysel disaster, admits he is not yet ready to forgive and forget.

Lorentini's son Roberto, a young doctor, lost his life when attempting to help fans injured when a wall collapsed due to rioting Liverpool fans prior to the European Cup final in Brussels in 1985.

"It's not an easy thing to forgive and forget when you lose a son," Lorentini told PA International.

"My son left two children, a one-year-old and a three-year-old. Fortunately, my wife and I have been able to help raise them."

Juventus and Liverpool played the first leg of their last eight Champions League tie last week with the Anfield club paying tribute to the victims before the game.

They meet again in Turin on Wednesday night.

"I didn't watch the game last week," added Lorentini.

"I read the newspapers and I heard the tribute that was paid but those apologies were only directed at the Juve fans and not at the victims."

Lorentini feels a more fitting tribute needs to be paid to those who lost their lives and his suggestion is a friendly game to be played between the teams before the end of the year.

To help his idea come to fruition, Lorentini will meet with Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry and Juve president Franzo Grande Stevens on Tuesday.

"I want a friendly game to take place before the end of the year between Liverpool and Juventus in order to honour the victims of the Heysel tragedy," said Lorentini.

"The important thing is that this game takes place this year, maybe before the new season begins in order to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Heysel disaster.

"This game would be a significant factor for us, a sign that the world hasn't forgotten."

One of the Liverpool supporters who was involved in the trouble in Brussels 20 years ago met with Lorentini in Italy. He discovered that the mental scars have yet to heal.

"The fan, who felt remorse, met with me last week and said sorry," said Lorentini.

"I told him that I don't hate anyone but I am not ready to forgive just yet."

Lorentini no longer follows professional football or dares to enter a stadium because "it's too dangerous".

In fact, he will leave Turin straight after Tuesday's meeting.

"In 20 years no-one has made a gesture to remember the victims," added Lorentini.

"I often look at the posthumous medal that was given by the president of the Italian Republic in recognition of my son's bravery and I wonder what was the purpose of it all.

"You go to a football game for entertainment not to lose your life for something so meaningless."

Lorentini's stance on hooliganism has also seen him take up the post of president of the Committee Against Violence.

But his efforts appear to be going unrewarded in Italy, where there are regular outbreaks of trouble.

This past weekend saw 200 Livorno fans fight with police at St Peters station in Rome following their side's 3-1 defeat to Lazio.

"It (violence) is difficult to eradicate it because there are too many interests in football.

"Football has simply become a business."

Some Chinese guy brought a bomb-like device in front of the Capitol Building and stood next to the suitcases that held the device for a couple hours. Then the police moved in, tackled him, and the bomb squad detonated the suitcases right in front of the Mall in DC. What a weird event today in the Nation's Capital.

The best tribute that could be paid to honor the 39 dead at Heysel would be for no one else to ever die at the football grounds due to crowd violence. Unfortunately several hundred more people worldwide have died in the stadiums since Heysel. The violence we see in Italy every week is disgraceful and I think it is probably worse than in any other country. If we cannot honor our own dead fans, why should we expect Liverpool to jump through hoops for us?

Ok so I got off to a bad start on this forum partly because I did come out attacking a-la Gattuso style. But I digress. From now on..peace...only positive criticism and I promise to behave and be respectful so long as you all do the same. I have met some interesting and friendly Juventini thus far and some not so friendly.
This is a little known fact which is actually very important and very well known among Interisti.

We all know that Juve is Italy's Team and FACE THE FACTS Milan is the Italian team in Europe...Juve just can't hack it beyond Italy and Milan in Italy vice-versa. I mean the way we can't compare Juve's scudetto's to MIlan we can't compare Milan's 6 titles to Juve's 2: one by PK and the other in the most controversial soccer game in history.
However, We all know that both Juve and Inter claim to have never been in Serie B. I admit my team was a sad bunch of players pre-Berlusconi and POST-Rivera...what can you do.
BUT, the little known FACT OF THE DAY is that in fact JUVE was relegated to Serie B but because of outside circumstances they were brought back up:
In 1913 Juve was dead last in Serie A and was supposed to relegated to Serie B. The next season as the war was waging and the sport's popularity was in decline they decided to bring Juve back up for 'special circumstance' despite finishing dead last in the "Girone". This decision was debated for years as Juve never actually played in Serie B but did finish dead last in A and a schedule was actually printed out with Juve in B.

This fact of the week was brought to you by your Pimp-in-the-box and most FILL IN THE BLANK member of Juventuz.com INCUBOROSSONERO :fero:
Stay tuned for more Milan-Juve facts...the box is aplenty

EVIDENCE: Newspaper clippings from ASK THE EDITOR in the Gazzetta dello Sport from March 1995. The archive team at the Gazzetta did their research. I can scan it but I'm not sure how many of you read Italian.

Mancini counting on Adriano Monday 11 April, 2005

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter boss Roberto Mancini has confirmed that Adriano will start in Tuesday’s Champions’ League tie against Milan.

The striker has spent the last three weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury but he’s been passed fit to return to action.

"He will be fundamental for us even if he is clearly not 100 per cent," stated Mancini. "He feels that he is ready to take the risk and he’ll start."

Inter will need Adriano at his best given the 2-0 first leg defeat, yet the South American is confident he is ready.

"I’m happy to be available again," said the 23-year-old. "Like always I will give everything for this shirt.

"I also believe, like the rest of my teammates, that we can go through because it is only right to have faith."

The Nerazzurri need to beat their city cousins by an ‘unlikely’ 3-0 scoreline but Mancini is a believer.

"We want to play at a high pace and we’ll look to use the roar of the crowd to our advantage," added Mancio.

"What will count tomorrow is the hunger of the side. We must be good enough to not let them score, otherwise that would be a massive blow."

Inter have only lost twice this season but those defeats ironically came against the reigning champions.

"I would say that the two teams matched each other in all of the other derbies this term," continued the Sampdoria legend.

"There was never one game in which one team was superior to the other . It is true that we haven’t scored against them in this campaign but they also have the best defence in Europe."

Captain Javier Zanetti added that he believes his side’s mental attitude will be of real importance.

"We are concentrated on the game," said the Argentine. "Our objective is to get through to the semi-finals.

"The match will be difficult and we will need to be perfect in every way. All of us must play with our hearts on Tuesday."

Inter (probable): Toldo; J Zanetti; Mihajlovic, Materazzi, Favalli; Veron, Cambiasso, C Zanetti, Stankovic; Adriano, Martins

What games was he watching ???
