So it seems that my beloved Milan has adopted an interesting outlook for the next few years..
allow me to explain:
Every fan's favorite words is "he is great for the future"..be it Gasbaroni, (spelling?) Miccoli, Abate, Gilardino, Borriello..whomever. We know that getting stuck with an arsenal of older players is a ticking time bomb: Juve defense...the "young" such as Legrotaglie were not enough to stop the ageing process of Montero, Iuliano and Ferrara coupled with a weakened defensive midfield. As a result: disaster in D.
Milan is going through interesting times: Defense this season was almost all (-Nesta) over 30 (starters) and yet played with the most vigor, heart and skill. Cafu...Pancaro....Costacurta re-writing the history books...coupled with a born again Paolo and Nesta. The balance for some reason seems to work incredibly...NOW. TODAY. PRESENTLY. The younger Laurssen and Kaladze got bumped for the much more reliable Costacurta. The balance was made in heaven.
Mid field...the older (Rui Costa) and the younger...Kaka. The older Seedorf and the younger Pirlo...where age matters: Gattuso and Ambro..Milan took note.
Ok its late and I'm tired..point being...Milan is buying 30 year olds and signing them for 2 years max for the WIN NOW theory which seems to be working. Its worked for sports teams such as the 49ers and the Cowboys.....people laugh when they bought Cafu...laughed when they bought Pancaro...what they bought was a racehorse in his prime with no need of maturing and no need of adapting.
Now the talk is of STAM again...win NOW....Dharasoo (whatever) 30 years old....
the situation and theory is obvious..will it bite them in the ass..probably in a way..all great things come to an end...however they will have enough of an arsenal of middle aged players: Nesta, Gattuso, Ambrosini, Pirlo, Borriello, Kaka not to panic or rather become Inter. These players are enough to work around and strengthen.

Nobody denied that Milan had a superb squad this season, and that all of their signings were success stories. Nor did anyone deny that Juve has been utterly shite and our signings have practically done sweet fsckall.

I think we've tried the "use the experienced war-horses" tactic, with Birindelli, Pessotto, Ferrara, Iuliano, Montero, Thuram, Tacchinardi, etc..... and look where it's gotten us. I think the reason Juve fans are looking so forward to the future so much is that we all realise that we're not gonna win much with our current squad, so IMO the wiser amongst us are willing to sacrifice a season or two developing young players into a team that can be our backbone for many years to com. We'd love to adopt Milan's "win now" tactic too, but it's far too risky, and it's once in a blue moon that building a team around old players (and especially such an aged defensive line) works out so succesfully.
