Zidane is prone to stupid violent outbursts. If you remember he served a 3 or 4 game suspension for a similar incident in the 98' Cup but came back in time to see off Brazil.

I repeat, France is crap, don't feed France.
I've been critical of France the entire WC, as anyone can tell you. But today, France was the better team on the pitch. My God, Italy's attack looked worse than Portugal against France for the last 60 minutes of the match: they couldn't earn a corner kick for their lives, they could never put together more than two passes before turning it over to France, and they exclusively played long ball desperation without ever making any effective runs. Meanwhile, France camped out on Buffon's end and kept sending dangerous balls in the box, winning corners, forcing great saves, etc.

For the first time I can say France looked like a squad that entirely earned their place in the finals -- and they looked like they earned a shot at winning it all. Sure, the Matrix penalty at 6' was lame and I would have never called it as a ref, but a half hour later a clear penalty should have been called against Italy (against Zambro -- my fave player in the world, no less) that wasn't.

I am thrilled for the Italy win -- I've been pulling for them as my second favorite team in this whole competition. But if not for that red card incident (duh!), Zidane was the MOM ... and looked like a clear Ballon d'Or winner for this cup. He stood out like no one else did in this match. (And for all the people who thought that this ref waited too long for Rooney's red card in the Portugal quarterfinal, this one took forever to hand out. In any case, Zidane was completely reckless and stupid.)

Terrible break for France. They played their hearts out and did well -- and folks like Thuram and Trezeguet you have to feel for. (Wow. Trez pulled a Sheva.) In the end, France still could not get a goal in their last three matches without a spot from the ref -- and well done to Italy for holding them to that. I am completely thrilled Italy won -- Forza Italia!!!! :strong: However, Italy has to consider themselves very, very fortunate in a game they were largely outplayed.
