To be honest I didn't expect this..I expected Arsenal to 'play' but I didn't expect a lame duck performance by Juve...they have NOT been the Juve of the first half of the season and never FULLY impressed in Europe but I figured it was going to end 0-0 or 1-1 ...
Also, I haven't fully analyzed to what extent Capello is to blame for Juve not being able to come up big .... odd substitutions yes ... stubborn decisions yes..(Zlatan) but lacklustre performances by Vieira and Camo are out of his hands.
I've often wondered if Juve would fare better if the elimination rounds of the CL were in the fall instead of the spring. They always seem to play like crap towards the end of the season (Serie A too - it's not just the level of competition as you advance in the CL). And they always seem to start strong and make everyone believe they're among Europe's best in the beginning.

Too many games perhaps. I would like to see a trimming of national competitions to 16 teams only and tournaments like national cups and European competitions should be one-legged (no group stage). It's no good when the length of the season (and therefor the amount of good [read: expensive] players a club owns) dictates who wins what.

Greg, it seems to me that back in the 1990's, when there were 7 clubs with a legitimate shot at winning the Scudetto each season the Italian clubs dominated European play. One needs to only look at the list of Euro Cup winners to see this domiantion. But now that only 3 clubs are capable of challenging for the Scudetto Italina clubs fare much worse in Europe.

Some changes are in order before the sport is killed off in Italy.

3 clubs??? Jog on Kevin....Lazio and Roma should be considered more legit. contenders for the Scudetto than Inter. At least they have actually WON in the last 15 years.

Fact of the matter is that it is becoming close to impossible to win both Scudetto and CL....UNLESS one was in a position like Juve this season...8 point lead...no real motivation anymore from the second place team: Milan realized long ago this scudetto race was only going to hurt their CL hopes. Capello did fvck up in the sense that there will never be a better time to capture both...the team wasn't exactly churning out 'crazy games' in Serie A and all guns should have been focused on CL...they had the opportunity to do so....Last season Milan tried to concentrate all guns on winning everything: tied with Juve ... just beaten PSV...they were heading into the final and playing Juve at home..
They lost to Juve and eventually lost the final and despite quite a stellar season of great performances they were left empty handed.
however, Capello and Juve for that case still lack the ability to come up BIG in that one game...they can GRIND it out for the longrun but rarely rise to the challenge....
