[Back to the basics and Enough with the games]

This season Juve has been the least entertaining team to watch....sheer bore and misery to watch them scrape by..take 3 goals in the process and rely on the Tudor's, Conte's and Iuliano's to not only win games but the consistent scorers have been these non-scorers or in random games your players will come out with a barrel of goals only to disappear the week after. We know more than anyone it takes a team to win and when it looked like Sheva was our only reason for success along came his "backseat" and along came Kaka, along came JDT, back came Pippo, along came a goal from Pancaro, one from Rui, one from Pirlo. Fair to say that for some reason your franchise players Nedved, Del Piero and Trezeguet are suffering for the crumbling defence and lack of depth and creativity in mid-field the fine ageing of some players (Ferrara) vis-a-vis the horrible ageing of others (Montero) mixed with the born again style of others Tacchinardi from defensive midfield to Dino-Baggio school of defensive midfield has made for a team teethering on the edge. I will be honest and say I am surprised THIS team is still up in the standings where it is but I can attribute this to the experience of Lippi and the character and pride of certain players and the sheer brilliance of Buffon.
As hard as it is to say even Inter have a more exciting albeit much less balanced game; they are the most unpredictable team in Europe but will not 'catenaccio' a game and will offer a creative granted sometimes unbalanced attack. Juve is suffering badly and their breaking apart at the seams comes out in the big games.. playing Milan in the beginning of the season they still had the last season mentality in tact but a few slumps, a few out of form players and some lack of confidence has driven it to become a team which is a shadow of last years team. Inter, Roma and Lazio were tests which failed miserably. Fine the arguement can still be made that Juve is still up there with the rest of them however as for creativity, play and style: miserable failure.

Well, Nick I cannot say I disagree, but I also do not think Juve is playing catenaccio against anyone. They attacked Bologna all day today, but lacked creativity and the final touch.

I could be totally off base on this, but I really think it comes down to one player, and I'll admit when I'm wrong, because I thought that Juve had acquired a more than capable replacement for him, but this attack hasn't been the same since he left.

    Edgar Davids.

It's really that simple. Say what you want about him as far as him taking shots from 35 metres away when he really has no right to, but he was the catalyst from providing defensive support to just flying down the center of the pitch, thereby forcing a defender or two to pay attention, and therefore opening everything up for everyone else. Everything has bottlenecked in the center of the pitch ever since he left.

One player isn't supposed to make a difference, especially one who isn't a prolific scorer, but he did make a difference, just with his presence, providing space and more opportunity for everyone else.

Feels good to talk football again.

    My Two Cents.

    Keep the Change.

We were doing brilliant at the start of the season tho, without davids.
Yes, against the Ancona's and Empoli's of the world.

It was very easy for us to get caught up in all of that, and I did so myself.

Eventually teams catch on though, and that's what happened here. Hey, If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

davids is gone. nedved is not the same. del piero was injured and then out of form for a long time. miccoli didnt play enough, di vaio isnt creative forward by no means. maybe even lippi's tactics were more cautious because of out miserable defence. it's easy for yopu to say incubo when you have natural trequartista playing as defensive mid.

Sergio might be on to something here, but I doubt it is down to only Edgar Davids. A central pairing of Davids and Maresca would be formidable, but we need a different style of defender right behind them. I am thinking of our old friend . . . who has been gone so long . . . no, not the beloved Andrea Fortunato . . . not that telephone pole Jaap Stam . . . I am thinking of the great defensive force: The Wanking Gorilla.

Who in Serie A could dribble a wanking gorilla? Besides Chevanton, I mean.

Ricky Ricardo? That goof couldn't get past Zebina. He couldn't get past Iuliano. He would be stepping on his own mess while the gorilla, after dispossessing him of the ball, would be upfield starting the attack. Babalooooooooooooooooo.

    Nick is right....

    Sergio is right.....

This is pretty much what I've been saying all along......

I think we are playing like a scared team.... scared to make mistakes and pay for them... thats why we've become so boring

Playing scared because our "defensive minded" defensemen can't handle their own responsibilities, Zambrotta excluded as he's more offensive, therefore causing undue and increased pressure on our midfielders to fall back and provide more defensive assistance, and that limits how far up the pitch they can push forward, that, in turn, turns our offense into a long ball/ long crosses type of offense. Its hard to expect the offense to be a pretty display of passing and through runs when the midfield is using up most of their energy playing defense

Yet, for some reason, everyone is clamoring for Lucio, who is a defenseman in name only.
