Kaiser,
You just dont know when to stop.....
Stating that Italian-Americans who use the term "fratello" arent "real" Italians was bad enough....
Now, we all glorify the mafia ????
Sorry pal, but the majority of us are not like that....
in fact, many Italian Americans are on the OTHER side of the law...namely Police officers, DA's and federal agents
Do some more surveys, I'm sure you'll find the right answers
I totally agree with Vinman's statement. Libero, what makes you think Italian Americans glorify the Mafia? Firstly, most mob movies are simply a formula that businessmen in hollywood stick to knowing it will get americans into the theatre. Secondly, considering the great heights Italian-Americans have reached in a mere 50 years: Supreme Court justice, two of the most renound mayors (Fiorello Laguardia and Rudy Guiliani), Senators, Governors, CEO'S, Doctors (such as Anthony Fauci head of the NIH and Robert Gallo who isolated the AIDS virus) I think its a fairly ignorant (no offense intended) statement based on what you see in the Sopranos and mob movies.
IN fact, Italian-Americans coined the term "GUIDO" to describe their 'paesans' who act like a wiseguy despite not being able to pay for a round of espresso.
Italian-Americans come from ancestors who lived in the most desperate regions in Italy and came with an incredible work ethic which obviously this generation and more has still embodied. It is not the spoiled Benetton's, Cipriani's or Ambassadors who sailed across the sea with 5 kids and pennies to their names only to raise the Scalia's, Cuomo's, Cellebezze's and Mancini's of the world.
