I don't buy it...the ref would have immediately pulled out the red if it was for the groin 'stomping' as you say..instead he only pulled out the Red once Cristian "over-rated" Ronaldo was pushed by Rooney..it was a horsesh*t call when you look at the other things refs have turned a blind eye to
I'm amazed by what powers people attribute to C Ronaldo over referees. He makes Juve look like a bunch of amateurs.

I know you wholeheartedly support Portugal and I don't mean to rain on your parade but when I see Portugal I see INTER (Figo) and it bugs the sh*t out of me
I can wholly understand that sentiment. As a juventino, Figo definitely presents me with a conflicting problem. (At first, I thought they should have left the clown home, given his immature tirade/walkout as captain in their last matchup against England where he was pulled. But strangely, getting out of Real Madrid and into Inter has done the unthinkable and revived his career.)

This is a great England side. Their midfield should have mopped the floor with Portugal, given their strengths compared to a Portugal midfield without as many stars who had lost half their starters due to card suspensions. But they didn't -- and England only seemed to have that drive once they were a man down and put Lennon on the pitch.

For Portugal, I don't know what Scolari was thinking playing without a striker for long periods. No wonder their only shots on goal were from distance. In some ways, it's as if they were playing time to survive Deco and Costinha serving their suspensions.

But nothing is a given for any squad from here. Even Brazil. Look at Argentina vs. Germany -- Germany was outplayed, but somehow the home side managed to pull that one out of their rear ends. (Pablo Ramírez was amusingly riffing on "Aleman-Lehman", but it was Ricardo who came up bigger by saving 3 PKs and getting a hand on the other.) There are favorites, but sh*t happens all the time. It would be difficult for me to say that any of these four don't deserve to be there.

That had to be one of my favorite episodes of Fawlty Towers. :howler:

Come down to my neck of the woods. Take BART to the Mission and get out on the 16th St. station. Some Lafayette-supplied meth customer escaping the law in Honduras will steal your ball for cash and the cops will bust him, face down on the asphalt in PlastiCuffs, with murals of Latino street art as a backdrop. Should make great video art. ;)

Jogo Bonito my ass. I poked in to the hideous 4-story Niketown this afternoon after lunch out of curiousity. Other than the hated C Ronaldo jersey, all their window dressing teams are all out of the Cup. Inside the staff are decked out in Brasil gear as if there's a fire sale. Plenty of loser gear.

Funny how everyone has their own verdicts, not opinion, verdicts. Sven Göran Eriksson himself, as well as Rooney, both knew the red card was because Rooney stepped on the dude's balls, and had no complaints, at least as far as Svennis was concerned.

Why does it matter what club team these guys play for? Who the fuck cares; they're out there representing their countries. Leave out all the nonsense of whether they play for Inter, Real Madrid, Juventus, etc.

AMEN TO THAT...Nike tried to sell the game as one made up of freaky dazzling step overs...footie tricks and salsa like movements while the world cup has been anything but....Ronaldinho has been anything but the magician he was sold as...instead it has been the Gattuso's and Fring's that have been at the Core of the most successful teams ... doing the dirty work that does not make the highlight reel.

Italy hasnt been the only team in this tournament packing the midfield with an extra player while sacrificing a striker

    Think France and Brazil......
