Hey Vinni...thought you would be interested in the meteorology assignment I had to complete and write up today. Hopefully everything is accurate..

1/18/06 22:17Z KBUF - Buffalo Niagara International Airport: Buffalo, New York, USA.

    METAR text: KBUF 182217Z 24027G39KT 1 1/4SM -SN BR BKN015 OVC020 M01/M03 A2968 RMK AO2 PK WND 25039/2211 P0000
Conditions at: KBUF (BUFFALO/CHEEKTOW, NY, US) observed 2217 UTC 18 January 2006
    Temperature: -1.0°C (30°F)
    Dewpoint: -3.0°C (27°F) [RH = 86%]
Pressure (altimeter): 29.68 inches Hg (1005.2 mb)
    Winds: from the WSW (240 degrees) at 31 MPH (27 knots; 14.0 m/s)gusting to 45 MPH (39 knots; 20.3 m/s)
    Visibility: 1.25 miles (2.01 km)
    Ceiling: 1500 feet AGL
Clouds: broken clouds at 1500 feet AGL
overcast cloud deck at 2000 feet AGL
Weather: -SN BR (light snow, mist)

The flight conditions at Buffalo Niagara International Airport (KBUF) meet the IFR criteria by having a visibility of 1.25 miles due to light snow and mist in the area. However, the ceiling resides above the 500-1000 feet IFR level, which is currently at 1500 feet AGL at KBUF. Considering the winds are howling out of the WSW at 31 MPH with gusts upwards of 44 MPH and snow indeed falling, the visibility would certainly become at bit dodgy at times, to be rather cavalier. Interesting to note the report of "mist" with a temperature of 30 degrees Fahrenheit and a dewpoint of 27 degrees Fahrenheit.

Just curious Andy but why are you majoring in Meteorology?? Do you have a passion for it? I'm not knocking it or anything I just don't even remember it being offered as a major.

I have always loved following the weather...ask anybody I personally know and they will tell you I have an interest in the subject like nobody else. For some reason I have always followed the subject closely and listened to the weather reports no matter the situation, especially if a hurricane or tornado is about to kill a lot of people, to be frank.

Penn State is one of the best schools in the nation for meteorology, and I heard a statistic somewhere that 50% of all meteorologists graduate from Penn State. Considering under 100 people enter this major every year at this college...you know the job market is fairly decent. The thing about the weather is that we will always have to deal with it and there is no way to stop it from occurring or even understand it completely...this field isnt like business or something else everybody goes into. But yeah I have always had an interest in said subject and the job prospects look appealing...we'll see what happens.
