You all don't get it : it's not supposed to be aesthetic, it's about symbols.

The RED of the border evokes passion, conflict, glory and suffering.

The Kaiser's portrait by contrast is white (purity, peace, reflection) but especially BLACK (mystery, fear, distress, death, and in Baresi's case : mourning. Indeed he lost both his parents at a young age).

Combine the two and see what you get. And I won't take "a pissy avatar" or "a Milanese zebra wannabee" for an answer.

Oh screw this I'll do it myself : what you get is a man tortured by a profound inner pain yet aware that it is never too late to better oneself. However his only chance of redemption lies in his resolve to continue this life-or-death combat of his. And that's what the red border represents : see, he wants to unleash his fury against it, he wants to crush this virtual and material cage that keeps him prisoner and cover it with the red of his own blood. Ultimately he wants to cleanse the doors of perception and break on through to the other side.
A very poetical way of describing a Baresi image probably taken after a 0-3 loss against Juve in San Siro....:D

nice post, diavolo

I looked into doing that when I was about 14 years old cause it really interested me. Sadly, there were only two options in Holland at that point in time:

1) I could major it in at an expensive private university in Amsterdam
2) I could join the Royal Navy and get my degree there

I'm from a poor family so #1 was in NO WAY achievable and #2 - I didn't (and probably still don't) qualify for the navy because I have an eyesight problem. Distance view (-3) and contact lenses ---> not what they're looking for on.

So you're studying it or? If you already typed it somewhere, I apologise but I haven't seen it
Interesting...so in other words there are not many options for aspiring meteorologists in Holland. :D

Here in the States only a few universities offer a major in Meteorology, and less than ten if I remember correctly are actually recognized for their meteorology department. Combine this with the very miniscule number of students who are actually interested in weather, the job outlook here in States looks very good. Possibilities include working for the National Weather Service, private companies such as the Weather Channel and Accuweather, and also the possiblity of working for an insurance or risk management firm that need meteos to specialize in climatology to advise them on the risk of living in certain areas. The latter is the route I will try to take as I see it the most lucrative nowadays.

Just finishing up my freshman year in college, I am still a year away from starting my meteo classes, so a lot of work is ahead.

PS-Thanks for the sick avatars Erik.

Here's a quick recap for you, Rab:
* Vinman, Jeeks, Nick, et al, raised questions about some of Emma's statements
* Claire took it upon herself to defend Emma, and then took the doubts personally upon herself
* I made the mistake of supporting the same questions with my own experiences
* Claire took that as a personal attack on herself too, then started spouting insults at me
* I bit back but don't want to play this game anymore
* The surrealists moved in to change the subject

That pretty much sums it up.
Sweet...I see nothing has changed around here after a week's vacation. :cheesy:

And damn, I just realized how much I love 5 foot swells at the beach...and the beach sure as hell beats this computer and everything that goes with it. :D

Right, maybe the Americans here are familiar with the story of that hot school teacher who is being tried for having had sex with a 14 year old student.

The article is on today's Corriere della Sera's online edition. Now I don't personally give much of a damn about the story, but there was a link on the article to the teacher's fansite (people who want to see her acquitted) and out of boredom I clicked on it
LOL...I think she is going to claim insanity. I suppose the conscience only kicks in after the pants come up...

But damn that is one fine teacher.

Habs got the 5th over-all pick

Word is that Lemieux and Crosby will play on the same line
That would be something to watch...however I have not heard anything about Lemieux making a return....again.

Claire has also sadly left. Apparantly she cannot post without wanting to physically harm certain members. Its for the best and when we coach her out of her room she will be going through an extensive real world reinstallment scheme. Best of luck with that Claire.
Claire left? Hmm, not like we heard that before, or anything. :D

Burke and I, as well as a few other friends who care about football, got tickets to the Chelsea-DC United match on Thursday at FedExField. Our seats are right behind the Chelsea bench, I think in the first row.

So whoever is watching the game look out for a flaming Blues Jersey being thrown out on the pitch. :D

Can somebody be kind enough to make this into a 100x100 avatar for me? Thanks.

You can obviously cut it down a bit, however I do want the boarder and most of the wave in the shot. Hmm, this might take some expertise.

Negative. In his 18 year long career at Milan, Baresi never lost 3-0 to Juve. Not in San Siro, and not at Delle Alpi.

The best I could do out of the first picture, a lot of the wave had to be cropped. I guess Zlatan will come with a better solution
