McDonald's workers striking again for $15 dollars an hour and Union rights.

Notice the demographic(s) in these strikes. Sad what the AA community has gone through. Tough lesson learned when they all get fired by MD's and replaced by either high schoolers or machines as a result.
Just curious, but do you believe the minimum wage should be raised at all? Or completely abolished even?

It should be adjusted due to inflation but $15 for a McDonald's worker seems a little bit too much. That's the kinda job you take if you're a teenager or retiree who doesn't want to sit around all day. Managers should get more obviously but for flipping burgers it's a little too much.

In the end, it should depend on the job and level of responsibility and workload you do.

Raised eventually, not now though. Not abolished.

But these fools don't deserve $15 for flipping burgers
But adjusted for inflation it should be about $11 an hour today. Personally I like Australia's system where it's based on age.

Problem with minimum wage is as soon as you hike it up, fools like those striking (and being arrested LOL) will ask for more 6 months later. Minimum wage isn't meant to be a "living wage" its tiered for young kids, first jobs, part-time jobs while in school etc...the jobs that pay minimum wage AREN'T meant to pay people an amount they can live off of. I have no sympathy for people that are "OK" with working that kind of job and expecting bills to be paid. Moving up to management and growth within that company is a different story if that's what they want then they need to start somewhere.

Australia's system :agree:.

Sometimes even management is not enough though. I'll give you an example. I work in the shithole known as Rite Aid. They pay supervisors 75 cents more than when you were promoted. So if I were to get promoted now at $8.50 an hour after two years, I would be getting paid $9.25 an hour to run the entire store. I think the co-managers make maybe like $30,000, that's enough to MAYBE struggle on your own in most places in Brooklyn.

In the end I'd much rather force Rite Aid to pay people more money, because as it stands now the company just pays half a livable wage and then the rest is paid for by your tax dollars.

I was paid only 44,000 for Abercrombie back in the day when I ran 6 stores as a DM. I was paid 61,500 to run an underwear store the size of my basement.

So, when pay is shitty (especially in retail), what do you do? You make the business decision to look elsewhere. That's what I did.

OR, you take the part time hours you get at one location and seek a second job if necessary. I've done that too.

Oh yes, I've seen them :tuttosport:. And half the guys are gay too, so you have more of a chance with the women. I applied twice and both times they didn't call me back though :p
