Napoli-Livorno ref scandal Tuesday 25 September, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pierluigi Collina has ordered a change of referee for tomorrow’s Napoli-Livorno game after the Amaranto club website 'announced’ the assignation early.

Under Italian rules, the clubs are not told which referees will be assigned to their matches until a maximum of two days before kick-off.

As it is a midweek round on Wednesday evening, the draw for the officials was made on Tuesday. However, the Livorno website published a news item confirming referee Daniele Orsato for the tie on Monday.

The club should not have known about this, so refereeing designator Collina has ordered a change as a precautionary measure.

Now Emidio Morganti will take over the match at the Stadio San Paolo on Wednesday evening with new assistants Romagnoli, De Luca and Pantana.

“I am very irritated and surprised by this,” stated Collina when told about the 'prediction’ made by Livorno.

This incident has brought back fears over Calciopoli, where former Juventus director general Luciano Moggi had telephone conversations with the refereeing designators suggesting which officials to assign.

Yeah, it is amazing how low key the reaction is, when it is a team that no-one sees as a threat that has broken the rules.

that or give Inter the 2 pts they lost vs Livorno last game and last year's CL. :D
Just throw in Juve getting relegated and it sounds fair to me. It may be best to give them the next couple of league titles too, just to save time, because they will take them one way or another.

Pathetic. Im lost for words. The importance of this story and the light it shines on Moggi and his "system" is priceless. To think there are Juve fans on this website who trash Moggi, in light of stories like this, is simply incredible.

The good thing about us this season is that even though we had a few wrong calls from the referees, we're not bitchin' about it (Milan, Roma, Inter ;))
