Nedved scoops Czech award

Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved has been named as the Czech Republic's player of the year for 2004.

It is the fourth time that 32-year-old Nedved, who retired from international football last September after making 83 appearances for his country, has won the award following his triumphs in 1998, 2000 and 2003.

Liverpool striker Milan Baros and Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech were second and third respectively in the running for the award, which is organised by the Czech Soccer Federation and is voted for by 73 coaches and 325 professional footballers.

National team boss Karel Bruckner was named coach of the year for the fourth time after leading the Czech Republic to the semi-finals of Euro 2004.

Other awards saw former Manchester United player Karel Poborsky win personality of the year and his Sparta Prague team-mate, Tomas Jun, named best young player.
