Nope, it's a best of seven series. Now, the Lakers, as a team which finished with better stats gets a home court advantage. That advantage comes into place during game 6 and 7, which are in many cases crucial. First two games were in LA, and between 1, 2 and 6, 7 there are 3, 4, 5 :D

This way LA gets 4 games and Detroit gets 3.

no, two first games were in LA, then next three are in detroit, and then 2 last games are in LA (if neccesary). ;)
