On Sunday night, my boss called me with the following news: Pack your bags, we are going to Rome tommorrow.

I work for a small but well-connected communications outfit that helps swing things for some powerful businesspeople in Nigeria. I am not complaining of course. My job has taken me on short notice to some interesting places.

We got to Rome Monday evening, and spent the whole of Tuesday in fruitless discussions.

Early on Wednesday, I got on a train bound for you know where... after pleading ill and asking a colleague to cover for me (we were 6 in the delegation), so I hoped my absense wouldn't be missed badly.

Got to Turin and purchased a ticket at the cut-throat price of 1000 euro (my fiancee is going to have my head for that!).

Match time and the atmosphere in the Church was electric, and the rest is history...

I am sorry if this article is stubbed, but, I tried and failed to go beyond that point. Words can't express how it was being there.

P.S I received an official query at the office when we got backto Nigeria Thursday. It will be my first query, but I don't care. If I get another 2 in the space of 6 months, I'll be fired. So let's hope we don't get to Italy from here before then, or worse still, nothing takes us to Turkey in May. I'll be fired.

    Naira.

1000 euros adds up to about 140 000 naira. And that is a lot. Almost a month's pay for me.

I'd have committed suicide if we'd lost.

    Maybe.

U notice I renamed Delle Alpi Church? Apologies to you religious folk out there, but this ranks high among the powerful spiritual experiences of my life. The other two being: in a battlefield in Sierra Leone, and in Surulere National Stadium, Lagos, Nigeria versus Senegal Nations Cup Quarter Final in 2000.

Wednesday was an experience I'd gladly go over again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again...

You lived the dream. And i dont see how a bad result would have changed that.
