unskilled workers might be some competition for vietnam or cambodia. china is at an other level though

He's right. China isn't the lowest cost manufacturing base by a longshot now. It's this mentality that has so many Americans thinking Chinese EVs are crap when they are way, way ahead of anything domestic, let alone globally. It's basically Wright's Law on steroids.

And just look at Musk's xAI project. A third of the employees are of Chinese origin.

And in today's "Make It Make Sense" appeal:

In what way? It’s fake nationalist horseshit. Of course they care about US market and they should.
They do care, and it is fake nationalist crap. However, the timelines are different. A true dictator like Xi can think in terms of generations, and China does for the most part. America typically thinks in terms of the next election and quarterly earnings, which is a really ruinous way to strategically grow an empire.

i suspect i'm seeing an average maga economist free thinker mastermind here?

Trump knows a thing or two about defaulting on debts. But usually it involves a bankruptcy court.

Which takes me back to this tweet joke I posted yesterday:
https://www.juventuz.com/threads/european-affairs.45249/page-31#post-6889811

The U.S. defaults on its outsized debts and basically there will be no more new money flow going in because nobody will expect to get it back. Think: bye bye Trump tax cuts, Medicare, and Social Security to remain solvent with a net positive national cash flow from day 1.

It would make China's Evergrande real estate default look like a sneeze.

so i guess that was the plan all along and it's pure brilliance, art of the deal, right?

what's also ridiculous, besides the point that guy @swag quoted on bluesky makes, is that you can import complete assembled smartphones without tariffs, but if you wanted to import the parts and assemble on murican soil, then the tariffs would hit parts and raw materials. that's how you encourage local production, right? or is it that apple wouldn't move production to the us anyway, so it makes sense to do a favor to tim cook who is a trump donor?

i still fail to see any solid strategy here.
