you cannot tax other countries. that's not how it works, period. also local taxes never enriched other countries.

genuine curiosity, what is he even talking about? knowing that he's usually very vague and rarely specific, and there's always an army behind him to explain what he actually meant, i'm really curious to hear someone decrypt all of this.

Basically Trump just says the words he think will land well with his supporters.

It doesn't matter if what he says is true or feasible. To him the truth is what people want to hear.

25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada by Feb 1.
and apparently trump expects canadian, mexican companies to suddenly move their manufacturing, production to murica to avoid the tariffs (which the importers pay anyway)

either they already have some deals in place (which is unlikely, factories aren't easy to move and won't happen overnight anyway) or this is just plain stupidity and will drive inflation instantly. very unorthodox economic policy, needless to say, it would be a huge surprise if it worked. it will fuck up canadian and mexican companies though, so if that was the point then it'll be a great success :baus:

It's funny how when there's an event seen by everyone that there is always two different interpretations, and you pretty much always know which side people are going to take based on their pre-existing beliefs.

One side sees Musk doing a Roman salute, confirming him as a Nazi. The other side thinks it's a media hoax and he was genuinely gesturing pouring his heart out to supporters.

On one hand this is pretty obviously inflationary, but on the other hand I refuse to believe the businessmen around him will let him do something like this, and maybe a majority of the products are excluded from this? I don't know. I'm really curious to see how it'll unfold.

I think you should trust your own eyes on this one if you ask me.

:agree: It certainly looks like one to me.

The other funny thing is in all the videos I saw yesterday showed him doing the gesture once.

Only today I saw a BBC video that showed he actually did it twice. But the second time looks less certainly like one, but still close enough? What do you think? https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy48v1x4dv4o

Then you have to ask what was his intention with that?

Is he really a Nazi? In recent times he seems to be supportive of Israel the Netanyahu regime.

Is he just an attention whore?

Who knows. I think they're taking the piss out on all of us.
