He said he hates that they are a fact of life, which doesn't sound as bad. It's still bad though, because mostly they're only a fact of life because they refuse to adopt normal gun laws.

even his suggested solution (more effective control at the entrance of schools) isn't that bad of an idea from someone who's clearly paid by the gun lobby

The issue here is that an idiot can easily traumatize a town. There are idiots everywhere, and there are evil people too who you truly can’t stop. But it should be a million times harder than this.

But the thing is you can't secure schools the same way you secure airports or courtrooms. It's impossible to have that kind of manpower everywhere all the time. And then shooters would simply move to routes children take to go to school.

By far the easiest solution is making it more difficult to get guns.

I mean, you see almost no school shootings in any other country in the world. They happen, but they are so rare. I couldn't name a school shooting in Europe in recent memory. Maybe there is one, I'm guessing there is. But they're definitely rare.

agreed. canadians also have guns. europeans hunt a lot, i know dozens of hunters who have huge arsenals at home. not ak's of course but deadly weapons. in hungary you'll get jail time if your gun isn't properly stored and your kid can access it

my point was that usually we don't see any solution to the problem from the nra dudes and conservative politicians. they usually answer by saying that it isn't the time for debates but for grief lol. anyway, if they suggest an airport style control then let them pay the bill and let's see how it works. you're probably right and shooters would find other opportunities

Also, while we have almost no private schooling in Belgium, it is in fact on the rise in Europe too. So you don't need school shootings it would seem.

to be fair, unless you go to a nice school district, most public schools seem useless here. All about standardized testing.

As far as i know china is the only other nation where these kinds of events occur with such regularity except, obviously, with knives instead of guns. What is it about those two nations that stands out from the rest?

That could be because of the low percentage of kids going to private schools. If you push everyone there then you’d have the same problem there too.
