I think one of the most annoying things about this general movement is the criticism one gets for not being all the way one side or the other. Like you said the middle is often the best place as you can take things from either side.

And not because there's something inherently good about the middle ground. In Iran for example taking the middle position on most social issues is most likely the wrong position either in service or in fear of the dictatorship but in a country like the US where the structure is relatively fair, rational and nondiscriminatory, if you are to factor in most of the relevant variables you'll automatically end up falling somewhere in the center.

Context is everything, I consider myself more left in terms of policy but when I say that I mean in reference to Australian politics. Does that mean there aren't some things I agree with that the right suggest, no, but overall more left leaning. Honestly in Australia, for the most part, both major political parties are sort of centre anyway for nearly everything in terms of federal government. States vary a bit more.

I've seen hordes of Hindu, right wing accounts (many of them fake) engage in targeted harassment of journalists, actors and anyone else who is critical of our govt (especially women), and also carry out fake Twitter trends using copy-pasta messages, many of which are coordinated my the IT Cell of our ruling party. Trump seems like a minor nuisance compared to them.
