I believe a lot of his success relied on the media constantly going after him and giving him free advertising, he probably just wants to keep this war "us vs them" alive, it's his biggest asset
Sure. And you can get away with saying a lot of stuff, if you cloud it with a bit of context. You can always backtrack or say that you spoke a bit too strongly.

Written documents are different. They demonstrate intent. Because they take a while to actually write down, they show that the writer has thought about the impact of his words.

Trump, just like the Nazis, will end up being convicted because of his own written documents.

OK, but what if the media actually were no good journalists owned by millionaires thirsting for power telling lies in fancy sentences? you'd still get convicted for rallying people against them? is it really illegal to target the fourth power?

That's the thing. They can't all be. There are thousands of different media sources. The notion that they'd all spreak fake news is ridiculous.

Also, it's very easy to check. Trump tells four to five lies every single day it seems. I'm fairly confident that CNN for example will do much better in court.

well it is a nice move for his popularity, well played. he has been owning Western media for many months and seems like he intends to continue

here in Latvia we have ~5 radio stations, 2 television channels and internet news site completely funded by the state, for years they have been the most trustworthy and professional sources, head and shoulders above public sector journalists. region funded media is shite though
The US privatises things like prisons and schools, you really think they'd have functioning and successful public media channels?

he doesn't target thousands, he targets the big fishes that everyone consumes. they produce so much news that of course all of that can't be 100% solid.
is it even possible to sue the president over such details?

I consider the US to be on par with Rwanda or the Philippines right now. Fucking dangerous to go there imo.

Btw they have a huge history of wrong convictions based on emotion rather than fact as well.

You shouldn't feel that way. The government is not representative of its people. I can guarantee that if you were to walk into a breakfast place and sat down for coffee, you would be treated warmly, and if you told them that you were from Belgium, that you would get yourself into a good conversation about the world. And that goes for anywhere in the United States.

I know. And I have been in the past. I've said it before but I have never met friendlier people than Americans.

My problem is that their institutions can't be trusted. I could be locked up without a fair trial, I couldn't complain to the media, because apparently they mean fuck all now and the administration would never even think about considering a request from Belgium to extradite me.

Transcript of Trump's press conference this morning, spent attacking the media and airing out his laundry list of grievances.

:sergio:
I read this for so good damn long. Very fascinating...

But I will cut short the rest and wait for full footage because it doesn't transcribe much of the questions.

Never been to the US, but have met tons of americans through work, including many nationals from all across the world. Americans are easily top 3 most socially warmest and nicest people based on those personal interactions. In fact you were the friendliest of them all, but met less of you then the other nationals so wouldnt want to say it too defenitely.

Many immigrants don't know their rights very well, and they feel the same way. I know someone who's born here but grew up in Middle East before coming back to US as an adult. He is so scared that he doesn't go to any protest or even donate to ACLU or similar institutions in fear of retaliation.

The Trump administration is considering mobilizing as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up illegal immigrants, according to a draft memo obtained by AP. The White House said the agency’s report is “false,” however.

What the AP called “unprecedented militarization of immigration enforcement” would affect locations as far north as Portland, Oregon and as far east as New Orleans, Louisiana, according to the 11-page document.

Governors of the eleven states affected would have final approval on the mobilization of their National Guard forces, the agency reported.

The AP report is “false,” the White House said, according to Reuters.

This is our little fascist governor. I'm sure he will think very long before approving this plan
