If there's no pure democracy, and there is none as you said, then what's the point in bringing up the distinction? And you know pretty much every country other than US elects their president (if they have one) by popular vote. Would you call that mob rule?

No because the laws would have to be decided that way as well

You're comparing US system to an imaginary system that does not exist, and probably ceased to exist after ancient Greece. What's the point? Every country has laws. Every country (except the obvious banana republics) elect representatives. This makes no sense.
