This is an incredibly narrow and overly simplistic way to view things. Pretty much every decision made will directly or indirectly affect your life, Trump doesn't have to stop by your house and hand you a $20 bill for things to matter. And even if they don't, what the fuck is wrong with caring about Americans?
Why would this not have an effect on our lives or that of people we know?

How about do I get to care about the federal employees that I know when their livelihoods are possibly threatened by some spastic retard billionaire? Or perhaps not because it's not affecting only me personally. Am I allowed to care about my friend's family that lives in the West Bank while we give unlimited money to Israel in perpetuity while they buy our politicians and brag about it? Let me know what I'm allowed to care about.

The real news is the removal of all checks and balances in government power to limit abuses. Living in a country where there are still living people who remember life under Salazar authoritarianism, I'm wondering if humanity just needs to repeat past fads to remember why some things are a really terrible idea.

A lot of people think they’re buffered and supported because they’re in the “in” group, joining the cheers to take down all the “out” groups.
Problem is without checks and balances, there’s always a reason to classify you in the out group.
Right now everyone feels safe if they kiss the ring. But soon infighting will prevail, with internal rivalries wishing to be settled by favoritism from the crown. But the crown thinks you are all peons and only survive as long as you are useful.
If you thought 40 of 44 prior Trump cabinet members not endorsing his reelection was something, the Salam witch trial nonsense bound to happen will make that seem petty.
The most dangerous will be the the careerist climbers who will step on anyone’s face to advance their position.

What you’re saying it 100% true, if have this joke with my co-worker. We work together, sometimes go to the gym after work, come home, eat diner with your wife and kids. Life’s great. Than after 8, you lay on the couch, open social media and suddenly it looks like the world is ending. Huge contrast between the rest of your day.
