my boss is convinced there have never been cat 5 hurricanes before Helene and Milton.
I feel like, if you’re a reasonably aware person you should probably know a bit about these storms. They happen every summer and are a major part of the news cycle and even pop culture to some extent. You almost have to be intentionally ignoring the world around you or brain dead not to pick up at least some basic hurricane information
I mean, how is that even possible? You can easily look up stats on hurricanes and typhoons on Wikipedia and see there have been several. If you even understand the concept of a cat 5 hurricane or the Saffir-Simpson scale, then how does one get something so wrong?
Sadly, I think we not only have an epidemic of poor education especially related to the sciences, but now we're also seeing it in social media disinformation on a large scale. Never have I seen such bad weather takes in my life. I can understand getting confused on NWS issued watches vs. warnings, as one of my buddies here in town did last year (he thought a tornado was on the ground but it was only a watch). But to have opinions on how certain weather events occur, or lashing out at meteorologists if they don't nail down a forecast a week out, is just beyond stupid. These people have no idea of the variables at play but act like they know something about meteorology, lol. I almost failed out of some courses because it's just that hard.
The NHC actually nailed the forecasts for both Helene and Milton 84 hours out within a landfall radius or 30 miles or something. That's actually quite good. Would love to see your boss try to do that.
Lt Dans criminal record is quite the read
I saw some clown media group on X saying they're giving him a million bucks or something. For what? For being a dipshit? That's why sometimes I think these people are better off dead, in the hopes the money actually goes to someone who deserves it.
