Me too. I have various reservations (overuse of flashbacks, over-use of palsey-cam, a slightly tiresome use of the spy as superman cliché, etc.) but they're all swept away by a very good film.

It's not James Bond at all, sure there's action going on but no rocket launchers in cars and stuff like that. Bourne movies offered good action, intense and most of all a quality plot. I don't think you've seen any of the bourne movies if you're compairing it to Bond...
I finally saw Pan's Labyrinth and it's freaking amazing, I loved it. Such a raw and ruthless fantasy, and a even more raw and ruthless world. I thought this movie would be a little more for kids or something, but it's far from it, a completelly serious movie with a deep and touching story.

meh this is a strange one for me. you see, everyone i knew went on and on about manhunter, i had already read the book red dragon and was intrigued. have to say its a very poor adaptation of the book, misses too much and though peterson is great as a man tormented by his own mind, the film itself is lacking in quality. plus teh ending, compared to teh book is a sloppy mess. the film red dragon is a much better adaptation, even if anthony hopkins is hamming it up as lector by then

You got me on book adaptation as the only Lecter book I read was Hannibal (which was a great screenplay by David Mamet).
Most films adaptations miss plenty from book but as a film I would argue that Manhunter beats out Red Dragon for atmosphere and realism. You actually feel that the killer is 'out there' and esp the scene where they decode Lecter's message is really slow-burn tense compared to the more pantomime evil of Red D. But that's just my opinion of course!
Ending is a mess but it's Michael Mann ;-)

for atmosphere manhunter is much better, however, for the full story you gotta watch red dragon, norton is exceptional as always and ralph fiennes is excellent as the tooth fairy. the ending of manhunter and the sheer amount of story they dropped made it a massive dissapontment to me, though i can see why so many people loved it.
