Day Lewis was excellent, overall casting was excellent, but the movie was so-so if you ask me.
Well Daniel was the whole movie, it is all about him. I thought the movie was very well made to show his character which is why I thought it was excellent.

Dr. Strangelove - Strange, funny at times, meh in general.
Aw, Zé -- you may not have got it in its political context. Think of what it would have taken to make a movie of that subject matter and execution in its day and time. Think of the House Committee on Un-American Activities (or HUAC, don't ask how they got that out of that name) and their witch-hunt for Communist infiltrators in Hollywood.

It's a pretty audacious send-up of the times. Realize it was one of the first legitimate films out of Hollywood, along with The Manchurian Candidate, that satirized the Cold War. Public service announcements were telling kids to "duck and cover" when the Russian H-bombs hit, and then this send-up came out.

You're right about that, and I did take it in its political context. I just I think, perhaps it would have been more enjoyable to read it instead of watching it...if that makes any sense.

The physical acting of a Peter Sellers in this is superb, though. If you haven't seen him in Kubrick's Lolita, that's also worth a view.

I have to give you that. His accidental "Mein Führer" blurts and Nazi salutes were hilarious and his conversations with his Russian counterpart :lol2:

I loved it. Bizarre soundtrack though - keys you up the wrong way as often as not.
The soundtrack does indeed make you feel that there is something wrong in the "purchased" copy but it's bizarreness gives the movie a character. In the end the movie is about one person, maybe the music was odd just to emphasize his character?
