Do you really want a coach that everyone on the planet thinks is an utter asshole?

If means winning 1-2 trophies a year, the rest of the world can kiss my arse.

I'd rather be hated by all and winning than loved by all and finishing 2nd.

Exuse my ignorance, but could someone inform me why Jose is regarded so badly. I honestly do not know. I never open Chelsea or EPL related articles so I'm pretty clueless in his career. All I know about Jose is that he didn't celebrate at all when Porto won the Cl, but celebrated his ass off when Chelsea beat Barca in the 2nd round. Some background info please.

:)

I personally don't like him because he wins too much and thinks too highly of himself.

In 02/03 he won Portugal, Portugese Cup and UEFA cup.
In 03/04 he won Portugal, Champions Leage and lost the Cup to Benfica in the final
In 04/05 he won Carling cup, close to getting EPL, still in the Champions Leage and got kicked out of the FA Cup.

As of now he has won 6 out of 8 competitions he participated in.

And the guy truely believes AND openly says that he is the best manager in the world. I don't like that attitude. Add to that the fact that he has free access to practically inlimited financial resources... and I start hating him.

Unfortunately, the rules of society work where if you're at the top of the heap, no one can really has the authority say crap until they can knock you off that pedestal. How else do you explain U.S. foreign policy?

Mourinho (as with the U.S.) will find himself no longer at the top of the heap -- later if not sooner. But until then, he's got bragging rights and no one can lay a finger on him on merit alone.

And to answer why people don't like him? Everybody hates a cocky dictator. Being merely cocky wouldn't be as egregious, because you couldn't take that person too seriously if they weren't able to back it up. And being merely a dictator isn't sufficient ... just look at the flack Juve gets for our Serie A record, but we're not exactly known for trash talking down the rest of the league so we still manage to preserve a large fan base (in addition to a large group of resenters).

It's the combination of the two that really seems to cheese people off: resentment of his attitude only magnified by the fact that he has the success to back it up.

Good way of putting it.

Along with that number of people who simply do not care about Chelsea diminishes. Most of the people either love them... or hate them. Just like with the US.

What do you have against Ancelotti? He's done a good job at Milan, and he deserves the praise he gets. And above that, he's never ever bad mouthed Juve, even though he gets hit out at by Juve fans. In fact, i still remember when Milan beat Juve in the CL finals, he went up and consoled a few of the players he'd been close to during his time in Turin. Quite the gentleman, ill say.

So??? Lippi said he preferred Milan's system to Juve's. That doesnt mean its an insult. Ancelotti never worked with Nedved, if my memory serves me correctly, so he was right in saying it should go to a Milan player. What would you do if you were in his place? Choose the team your coaching, or single out a player who you havent even trained on the pitch?

There is a subtle but critical difference between a coach that everyone on the planet thinks is an utter asshole and a coach who is an utter asshole that the world cannot ignore.

I would argue that part of his "utter" assholeness is the reason we should consider him if the opportunity arose in the first place. The reaction to him wouldn't be so universally visceral if he didn't deliver on his promises.

Assholes who get their come-uppance are to be ridiculed. Assholes who aggrevate their detractors even more because they don't get their come-uppance are to be feared.
