No damage done to the penalised clubs?!!!

I guess losing around 5 or 6 world-class players during the summer is an everyday occurence in football.

Playing in Serie B is no big deal, who cares if you're thrown into a financial crisis due to the lack of income, we could just ask the people of Turin to lend us a couple of Euros, no harm done.

No Champions League football for 2 seasons? Who cares about that competition anyways, it's just the tournament that brings Europe's top clubs together and is a huge source of money, hugely overrated.

Two titles taken away? When you've got 29 titles, you won't notice if 2 had gone missing.

What about Fiorentina and Reggina?

Ruining Fiorentina's successful project to return to the top and take away their right to a Champions League berth is no big deal, they can just invest more money and a few more years of their lives, it's not like they're going to notice the extra money and time spent.

And Reggina, instead of playing an extraordinary season, they spent their season fighting for Serie A survival, no much difference between the two scenarios.

Whoever wrote this article must be a football genuis.

(For anyone who hasn't noticed it yet, although I think it can't be any more obvious, I was being sarcastic)

Anyways, thanks for the article Rebel. It's interesting to see that some people can think in such a one-dimensional way, and they're qualitfied enough to write articles about their thoughts!!!

Looks like this time it's the ref's trial time....I guess we already had our punishments....

Eight referees implicated in Calciopoli

Eight Serie A referees have been implicated and seem set for court proceedings as the Calciopoli investigation reaches its climax, as well as another club - Messina.

Former Juventus directors Antonio Giraudo and Luciano Moggi, previously condemned on the issue, have also been named among 48 people as the Naples criminal investigation ends.

Four of the referees were not even listed as potential suspects in the original storm that saw Juve relegated to Serie A and ultimately docked nine points, plus points penalties imposed upon Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio and Reggina. Only one ref, Massimo de Sanctis, was found guily of misconduct and suspended for four years.

The Italian Referees Association (AIA) announced that it would await official documentation regarding the implications before making a decision on any suspensions for the accused officials, one of whom is an assistant.

Messina president Pietro Franza insisted that the club have "always operated in absolute legal transparency" after the accusations of underhand dealings levelled at his struggling outfit. He added that they would be ultimately vindicated, while former sporting director Mariano Fabiani "will be cleared in a short time".

Former referee-appointers Paolo Bergamo and Pierluigi Pairetto and previous vice-president of the Italian football federation (FIGC) Innocenzo Mazzini are also set to be charged over the mess.

But if it's not gonna inflict further punishment on us...then I don't give a damn about it.

Just I hope they finish the entire investigation soon.

I hope they won't dig up old 'crimes' every now and then and scare the shit out of us.

Demotion to serie B and a points-reduction should be sufficient to wipe out anything we could have done wrong in the past.

Calciopoli II to hit Juve? Friday 13 April, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus could reportedly face more penalties for their part in Calciopoli after public prosecutors in Naples wrapped up their investigation.

The Italian giants were stripped of their last two League titles and thrown into Serie B with a nine-point penalty, but Bianconeri fans are fearing another summer on trial.

Naples prosecutors have finally closed their match-fixing probe after almost a year and have named 48 people who they suspect of wrongdoing, a standard step before possible charges are issued.

It is now expected that their findings will be passed on to Saverio Borrelli, the head of the Italian Football Federation’s investigative team, who may opt to open a new sporting trial as a result.

It’s understood that a total of 39 games from the 2004-05 campaign are among a list of incriminated ties, 15 of which were not previously made known by the Naples set-up.

Among the fresh games under suspicion is a Juventus-Milan tie which ended 0-0 at the Stadio Delle Alpi from the season in question.

Calciopoli erupted last May when a number of intercepted telephone calls between leading figures of the Italian game and referees raised doubts over the legitimacy of the '04-05 championship.

Former Juventus general director Luciano Moggi was placed at the centre of the scandal after being accused of setting up a network in an attempt to influence the outcome of matches.

“The contacts took place via phone calls, thanks to secret sim cards that were provided by Moggi to designators Paolo Bergamo and Pier Luigi Pairetto, to Messina’s sporting director Mariano Fabiani, to referees Gianluca Paparesta, Salvatore Racalbuto, Stefano Cassarà, Antonio Dattilo, Paolo Bertini, Marco Gabriele, Tiziano Pieri, Massimo De Santis and Marcello Ambrosino,” read a note released by the Naples prosecutors.

As a result of their findings, the eight match officials and Messina – who have protested their innocence – could also be facing a sporting tribunal.

With regards to Juventus, it’s has been claimed that they may be asked to face more FIGC charges depending on what Borelli finds in the reports.

But the Turin giants are remaining calm about the situation. “Until we have something concrete in our possession then it is not right to say anything,” said club lawyer Luigi Chiappero.

However, President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli (pictured) quickly shot down claims that his outfit may face further penalisation for either this season or next.

“We have to make it clear that Calciopoli didn’t start with Juventus,” he argued. “We’ve already paid the price for it, perhaps too much.

“After all, the decision to take away the 2006 Scudetto from us and hand it to Inter is still incomprehensible today.”

Lazio, Milan, Reggina, Fiorentina and Arezzo were the other clubs punished by the FIGC for their part in Calciopoli, as well as numerous club, FIGC and refereeing officials.

Only one referee, Massimo De Santis, was found guilty of misconduct in the sporting courts.
