Klose facing lengthy wait
Germany striker Miroslav Klose is facing a long lay-off after injuring his right shoulder in Werder Bremen's 3-1 Cup defeat by St Pauli on Wednesday.
"He could be out for three months," Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf said after the shock defeat by third division St Pauli.
Klose is the top scorer in the Bundesliga with 16 goals over the first half of the season and is likely to be the partner for Lukas Podolski in Germany's 2006 FIFA World Cup™ line-up. This latest injury means that he could miss friendly internationals against Italy and the United States in March.
He is also a major doubt for Bremen's UEFA Champions League knock-out ties games against Juventus on 22 February and 7 March.
Schaaf was sharply critical of the decision to let the match go ahead after a heavy snowfall in Hamburg.
"If you just want to have fun you can play in these conditions but if you're being serious you can't," Schaaf said. "Playing a game like this was dangerous for the players."
The 2006 FIFA World Cup begins on 9 June when Germany play Costa Rica in Munich. The final is on 9 July in Berlin.
