Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella insists he will stick to his usual game plan for tomorrow night’s encounter with Juventus.
Meetings between both sides have a history of producing plenty of drama and excitement - and the new manager is eager to impress the home support with a solid performance.
Speaking from a pre-match press conference, Montella said: “It represents a derby as far as the city of Florence is concerned. It’s nice to prepare for such an important game, a real point of pride.
“We must try and understand its importance and capture the mood of the city, but we must also take a step back and prepare with focus. I want to see my team controlled and clear-headed, we can’t afford to play with a man less.”
The 38-year-old believes Fiorentina need to play to their strengths if they are to stand any chance of arresting Juventus’ 43-game unbeaten run.
“We must play the game we’ve been working on, we can’t ditch it just because we’re playing Juventus. They have faced various types of opponents and we need to know how to make the most of our strengths. These could prove key to us in order to win the game.
“The Bianconeri have something extra in terms of their character, it isn’t by chance they’ve remained unbeaten for so long. They have a solid group.”
