Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella has talked up the importance of Saturday evening’s meeting with Juventus as he aims to keep the Viola on course for a European spot.
The 38-year-old, who took up the reins at the Artemio Franchi in the summer, outlined his desire to use the rivalry between the sides as a motivational tool for tomorrow’s clash at Juventus Stadium.
Speaking in Florence, Montella said: “We hold a sporting, healthy and stimulating rivalry with Juventus. I will have to try and convert this rivalry into sporting energy and not arrogance.
“Let’s not forget that this is an important game of football for all of us. We’ll need to display all our quality on the pitch because Juventus are very strong.”
Montella concluded by paying tribute to opposite number Antonio Conte as the two young managers prepare to pit their wits against each other for the second time this campaign.
“Conte has created an important mentality at Juventus and that’s not easily done. In the last two years he’s shown himself to be championship’s most successful manager.”
