Di Vaio replacement wanted
Thursday 22 July, 2004 - channel4.com

Juventus boss Fabio Capello has asked the club to sign a new striker after the sale of Marco Di Vaio.

The Italian has joined Spanish champions Valencia which has left the Bianconeri a man short in attack.

"He had a good offer which he considered and then accepted," said the tactician. "Valencia are an excellent side. Now I hope that we get somebody in to replace him."

Capello made the plea after the Bianconeri won their latest pre-season friendly, 3-1 against Serie B side Genoa.

"I really liked our first half performance," he added. "We are improving and there is a great desire to do well from everybody.

"I made a few changes to the starting side as a couple of players are having a few physical problems."

The Old Lady finished the first half 2-0 up after goals from Olivier Kapo and a splendid free-kick by Fabrizio Miccoli.

Matteo Brighi, rumoured to be on his way to Brescia, added a third in the 76th minute before Tosto got one back ten minutes from time.

Meanwhile, transfer guru Luciano Moggi has commented on any developments in their bid to sign Emerson from Roma.

"We can even wait until after the Champions’ League preliminaries to sign him," he said. "But expect some surprises…"

Mascherano, he is only 20 I think, but already 1st chioce DMF in Argentina National team, looks to be a good player with potential, maybe he will replace Maresca and play along side Emerson ? That would be cool.

Javier Mascherano? I think he's a DM and we don't need him since we're getting Emerson... or at least hope that we're getting Emerson...

But based on CM database, Javier Mascherano is a preety good player for his young age (20 yo), hehe...

He is a great player!!! I hope we can get him, he reminds me of Almeyda in his good days... I have seen him in Copa America one of Argentina's most interesting players

Juventus After Young Argentinean Star

Javier Mascherano, who is currently playing in the Copa America for Argentina, is the latest player to be linked with Juventus.
The young Argentinean midfielder of River Plate has been showing excellent skills which have caught the eye of many scouts, with Deportivo La Coruna and Spartak Moscow having followed the player for quite some time now.

However, latest reports from Argentina say that the Italian giants have taken a keen interest on Mascherano and currently the player's agent and River's President are in Europe, maybe negotiating a deal for the rising star.

in copa america where most of the stars dont go
Yes but Macherano has been reagular in Argentina's national team even before Copa America, he is one of Bielsa's favorites and he really plays very well, he is the kind of midfielder that never give ups just like Veron and Almeyda in their best days...
Now the thing with him is that we alredy have alot of central midfielders... so I don't know if we will sign him.

dont know the guy but from what i read he seems to be good.

esteban, you say we have a lot of central midfielders but our main effort right now is to sign emerson. so why not going for younger, cheaper and potentially better alternative.
