Pirlo, Chiellini, Licht, Lugano(for now), Vidal, Quag, Matri, Krasic, Marchisio is a pretty good start in the right direction, we just need to get the team to click. Add Vucinic and Vargas to that we could be a very annoying team to play against this year. Need I mention Buffon?

Plus we have some promising youth players that perhaps can make the jump? Sorensen is indeed a good young defender, already ahead of Barzagli and the only thing not working in Sorensen's favor is his age. Pasquato, De Silvestre, Marrone all looking sharp. Next season, providing we make the CL we will have an extremely solid team in place and hopefully next year we can bring 3 WC players (SS, CB, LM).

Last season when Fiorentina played there best football during the end of the season, Vargas played that exact position with great succes.

In that role he can both go forward, and help cover for Pirlo while his past as a left-back means he can help in the defence aswell.

In other words, he's perfect in that role.

He played it several times with Fiorentina in the last couple of years and was decent there. Vargas can play almost everywhere successfully.
