There has gotta be a way to find these players before they cost 38m though. Esp the ones in Eastern Europe. Seems like Outlet Mall shopping over there. Can get literally everything you want there and costs half as much as the normal mall. Why don't shop there more often?

You mean like getting Pogba for free? Vidal for like 11 mil? etc.

We can't offer a lot of these players enough playing time, nor development opportunities when they are young. Pjanic wouldn't have played for us at all during the Conte years. We had 3 better midfielders in a 3 man midfield.

A younger Pjanic maybe not this current Pjanic.

We would've changed system to accommodate him if that was the case.

Conte would have changed to a 4 man midfield?

He didn't to accommodate Marchisio and Pogba... And this was back after Marchisio's dominant year as a B2B in 2011-12.

This current Pjanic would have been a rotation player under Conte. He's great offensively, but he's very lazy and poor defensively. That could be in part playing for Roma, but... Conte would have detested it.

I'm not saying do "all" of our shopping there but working on that one superstar every couple of years would be nice. (Jovetic, Hamsik, Pjanic, etc all were brought for little )

There would be so many factors to assess this hypothetical scenario

For example, would we have benched a 38M player(with high wages) ? Which is what it would take to acquire this current Pjanic.

In those days,we played Asamoah as a WB just to accomodate him in the lineup as we all knew he was quality.

We would have played Pjanic as a WB too. :p

Silly hypothetical I suppose, as we couldn't dine in the kind of restaurants that supplied 38 mil players at the time.

You simply wait for one of the Belgrade clubs or other Teams from Serbia to fail to sign a contract with one of their talents. For example this season when we are linked with that Vlahovic kid from Partizan. If you try shopping in Croatia you gonna have to deal with Dinamo who asks for high prizes nowadays for their talented kids. Greece and Turkey arent so good, central Europes (Slovakia, Czech, Poland) talents goes to Germany mostly, Ukraine i dont know about their situation with talented youth but maybe thats another option for us. I agree if we could find a top talent every 3-4 years in these countries we would be doing one hell of a job

    Meh.

We need to get a relationship going with one of them the way we do with Empoli & Sass. :D

First, there aren't that many superstars coming from these parts and second, hundreds of players from Eastern Europe do leave their homelands at very tender age, but few succeed at the top level.
It's hard to locate the player who'll succeed when he's only 15-16, and if you wait until he's 18, 19 or 20, he'll already be sold for a price we aren't ready to pay for potential (Modric, for example, was sold later than the other talents from Croatia, but that's why he was sold for some 20-25m euro).
Another thing is that lots of players whose surname ends with -ic and are doing very well nowdays, are actually born in some western or northern European country, and from there you're not buying as cheaply as if you would from the country they were born, or from the birth country of their parents.
Rakitic, Ibrahimovic, Pjanic etc were born or raised in west/north Europe.
Indeed, some Eastern European players like Hamsik, Vucinic etc were sold really young and for little money. Later they succeeded, but for every Hamsik who succeeded, there are at least 50 young kids who don't make it, and it's hard to find the one who'll succeed while these boys are so young.
