Sunday night’s showdown between Milan and Juventus will see Serie A’s top goalscorer, Stephan El Shaarawy, square up against the division’s most potent attack.
Rather than rely on one man for the bulk of their goals, however, Antonio Conte’s men have preferred to share their 29 strikes around the team. Twelve different players have contributed to the Bianconeri’s overall championship tally: Asamoah, Caceres, Giaccherini, Giovinco, Lichtsteiner, Marchisio, Matri, Pirlo, Pogba, Vidal, Vucinic and Quagliarella.
The latter, who continued his blistering start to the season by opening the scoring in Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over Chelsea, is just two strikes away from reaching 100 professional career goals, having hit 71 in Serie A, 7 in Serie B, 19 in Serie C1 and 1 in Serie C2.
Milan’s present haul of 20 goals has been divided between six different players: Bojan, De Jong, Emanuelson, Montolivo, Pazzini and young Azzurri prodigy El Shaarawy, who currently tops the championship’s goalscoring charts with ten strikes to his name.
Both teams have a rich tradition of scoring in the closing stages of championship encounters. In the last fifteen minutes, including added time, Milan have struck on eight occasions, while Juventus have scored seven.
The Bianconeri, who boast the sternest defence in the division with just nine conceded, have let in half the amount of goals shipped by Massimiliano Allegri’s men.
And the man at the heart of the Juventus rearguard, Leonardo Bonucci, is just one step away from celebrating his 100th game for the club. As it stands, the 25-year-old has made 78 Bianconeri appearances in Serie A, 7 in Coppa Italia, 1 Super Cup and 13 in European competitions.
Bonucci made his Juventus debut on 29 July 2010, helping Del Neri’s men to a 2-0 away success over Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League. (Stats from Footballdata).
