And this time it's the real thing : the GOLDEN BALL.

France Football has already communicated to Milan that Andriy Shevchenko will receive the award next Monday in Paris. This is the seventh time a Milan player is voted best player in Europe after Rivera, Gullit, the Swan of Utrecht (3 times) and Weah. Only Juve have done better with 8 wins (kudos). Aside from the fact that I support Milan, I think he fully deserves it. Traditionally, in a season where a major tournament takes place it's the star player of the team that wins said tournament who receives the Golden Ball. But without wanting to downplay Greece's achievement at the Euro, we can't objectively consider any of their players as the best Europe has to offer. So it really came down to three names in the end : Deco (Platini's choice), who imo lost the chance to take the decisive edge by playing a disappointing Euro, Ronaldinho, who is absolutely brilliant but hasn't won anything this year, and Super Sheva, who was the serie A topscorer, won the league and played a tremendous first half of the season, very much like the Swan back in '92 but without the international appearances (so it's actually an even higher achievement).

Oh, and when Papin won it in 91 he was actually already playing for Milan (though it's his achievements with Marseille the year before that earned him the award). So I guess Milan and Juve are even in terms of number of Balon d'or won!
