dude, don't know, maybe its just me, but any coach in the world envies Capello for his defense and the def. midfielders. With Thuram and Canna in central def. plus Emerson and Vieira, Buffon should have a very quiet season.

Granted, our central defense is not the worst, but rather we are in a poor position on the flanks and I that it will show. However, I have a feeling that either Canna or Thuram or both will break down this season and we'll be in trouble.

We shouldn't judge the whole season in July, shouldn't we? Who knows who will still arrive and I think we have good players on the flank. Zambrotta has shown a lot of class not just in going forward but also in defense. I remember the Milan game where he was a real rock. Also Zebina had his good games, however we should look out for a more consistant solution on the right flank and maybe we will still sign a central def.?

Cannavaro Fine? Just Fine?

We all thought Thuram was over last year

I don't think Zebina is a poor quality, he was great last year untill this Injury ruin it.

I agree we do need to buy a new great central defender cause Thuram is in his last years maybe even last year of top performance!
About Canna I don`t agree he is more than just fine
About Zambrotta I agree that he has more midfield skills than defender skills but he also proved to be a very good at defending
Zebina really surprised me but I still think we need a better player in that position

overall I say that our defensive line surely not sucks but you do have a point about saying we should change it but it is not a must to do it this year
and also wait a bit maybe Moggi plans to buy someone for the defence this year...

Zambro has to be moved up to the wings. He's definitely more effective on the flanks. And really, all we need is one half decent d, and i think we can play a 3-4-1-2 to perfection.

Ian, you forgot one very important substance in your formula. You have 2 worldclass defensive midfielders covering for the defence line. The problem remains on the wings actually as we do not have the wide players to cover like Milan does, but last year I saw Camoranesi work well covering the right wing defensively
