Might as well start talking about a new keeper... (13 Viewers)

I dont think so Andy, remember that he had a broken leg in the summer of 2000 and came back better than ever. IMO it's easier for a keeper to recover from an injury and find form than an outfield player.
I did not say this is the end of Buffon's career, but the thing is we just don't know. The shoulders of a keeper are one of his most important areas of the body because they take a lot of abuse when diving on the ground. Injuring the shoulder of a keeper is like injuring the throwing arm of a quarterback.

And if we find a very good replacement, which needs to be done now if we want to win anything this year, Buffon might not be needed if our replacement turns out to be good. And as I said earlier, we don't know how Buffon will recover from injury. Either way this fvcking sucks.

True, but thats why he's haveing surgery, and after he recoveres I dont expect him to have any more problems with it.

I think I'd have to agree with Andy. As pessimistic as it sounds, Buffon may no longer be the man we've known between the posts. The shoulders and back are probably the most important elements for a keeper to be at the top of his game. An injury to either, can be pretty devestating to a goalie's career. He's going to have to be that much more careful when he returns, and he's going to be aware of that, at the back of his mind. It may deter him from taking the kind of risks that he would otherwise considered pre-injury. I hate to say it, but this could well be the beginning of the end for the mighty Gianluigi Buffon.

Del Piero was never the same after his surgery, and neither was Baggio after having his knee operated on more than four times.

As of this moment, I have absolutely no hope in this current Juventus. Buffon is replaceable, as is any goalkeeper or player for that matter, but the fact of the matter is that there are very few goalkeepers at Buffon's calibre out on the market.

Come on now. Its just an injury for gods sake- its up to the player to decide whether he wants to still play at the top level or not. Surgery repairs you after all. Trez even scored on his return from having surgery.

so will Buffon score when he returns from his injury?
Yes, im sure he will. Infact, I wouldnt rule out a hattrick with the third a diving header from his own penalty box.

Sure, Buffon could return better than ever if the surgery goes well and he has a very good recovery. However, as I and other have stated before, the shoulder and back of a goalkeeper is a very precious area of the body. Once something requires surgery to be fixed, it will never be the same again, and that fact could have either good or bad ramifications. As Baggio stated there could be a mental issue with Buffon, perhaps thinking twice about making a difficult save or throwing his body in some extravagent way. Or perhaps he would hesitate just enough to make an error coming out of net on a similar play to stop a charging forward. But that is the least of our worries now. Nothing is set in stone in surgical procedures, and same with the recovery process.

As for replacements, we might as well find somebody good. If he turns out to be very good he will give Buffon some competition when the latter returns, and make him work harder at coming back into full fitness. Might as well be prepared for the worst.

Again--there are baseball players who have returned after shoulder surgery...

and they throw a ball around 90mph 100 times per game, every 5 days.

Is it possible this is career ending? Sure.

Is it likely? Don't think so. :)

I don't think Buffon will be having a competition incase we signed any keeper, he's already world's best Keeper, Unless we Sign Dida then It'll be a Competition.

I like that Quote btw:).

is this FIFA we're talking about here Dan? :D
No, but how can one rule out a goalkeeper scoring on his return from injury?

I dont think this will change him. Its an injury. It happens to all professional footballers and they come back and keep playing. If he still has use of his arms thats fine. If it was his legs I would be worried because he wouldnt be able to actually move.

how is Buffon the world's best keeper exactly? The most expensive yeah, but the best keeper is surely the most consistently excellent one - the most reliable.

Well, a little competition might make Buffon work harder to get on form, and that is what we need. This idea is of course secondary to finding a replacement for the time Buffon is out of action.

And yeah, the quote is sick. It's from a Kanye West track. ;)

Agree...a little more competition will surely make Buffon work harder and be Stronger.
