'All over this site' is a slight exaggeration for 'the top graphic on the main site' (that is, not the forum). Besides, that banner was not changed for a reason, it was a token of the site's history and tradition (which goes back to 2000, you know, when Davids played for Juventus..), ie. it was there on purpose. Have you ever seen a picture of Platini on a Juve site? Did you totally freak out?
Besides, it's one thing for a fansite to keep their style, which is usually just a pet project of one person, quite another for a mainstream newspaper (which gets quoted _a lot_ by other sources btw). If you compared my old Juventuz layout to other fansites today it wouldn't lag behind all that much, whereas if you compare the Inquirer's design to
http://www.guardian.co.uk/ (which is also a very simply design), or another publication with long traditions -
http://wired.com/, it's a train wreck.
