Two more DCs that have been linked to us in past few days so I`ve decided to open this thread.

Here`s some info about them from wikipedia

Micah

Full name Micah Richards
Team Manchester City
Position Defender
Number 2
Date of birth 24 June 1988 (age 19)
Height 1.80 m
Weight: 83 kg

Youth Clubs

2000-2001Oldham Athletic
2001-2005 Manchester City

Senior Club

2005-Manchester City 53+(1)

Richards was born in Birmingham as his Kittitian parents were visiting relatives in the area at the time, but grew up in the Chapeltown district of Leeds. He attended Archbishop Cranmer CofE Primary School and his potential was immediately spotted by the school’s football coach David Moore, who drafted him into the school team at the age of seven. His boyhood team were Arsenal and his all-time favorite players are Ian Wright and Patrick Vieira.

A few years later he played for Leeds City Boys. He went to Wetherby High, near Leeds, and was signed on schoolboy terms by Oldham Athletic at the age of 12. He made the short move to Manchester City in 2001, with Oldham Athletic reputedly having a 20% sell on clause. In July 2006 Manchester City reportedly tried to buy out the clause, but Oldham refused. He also attended the Brazilian Soccer Schools scheme and retains strong links with this programme, with his father Lincoln actually running a Brazilian Soccer School in Chapeltown, Leeds.

Manchester City

He made his first team debut on October 22, 2005 against Arsenal, coming on as a substitute and was given his full debut on February 12, 2006 against Charlton Athletic. Since making his first start he has played in the majority of Manchester City's matches, and was named as the club's Young Player of the Year for the 2005-06 season.

Richards came to national prominence when his 94th minute headed goal in a televised FA Cup fixture against Aston Villa gained City a replay. Following the game, an emotional Richards was interviewed by Garth Crooks live on BBC One. During the interview, he was asked about his goal and used the phrase "fucking hell", and then continued with the interview. At the end of the interview, host Gary Lineker apologised to the televised audience and put it down to "the inexperience of the young lad".

During the 2005-06 season, Richards captained the Manchester City youth team which reached the final of the FA Youth Cup. Richards missed the first leg of the final as he was on first team duty, but returned for the second leg. He helped his side to a 2-0 win over Liverpool, but Liverpool youth won the trophy 3-2 on aggregate.

In July 2006, Manchester City rejected a bid of £5m for Richards from Tottenham Hotspur. On July 25, 2006 he signed a new four-year contract, quashing rumours of a move away from the City of Manchester Stadium. Throughout 2007, Richards was linked with a big money move away from Eastlands, with Chelsea the main contenders to sign the youngster for £15m+. Stuart Pearce said "I am not actively looking to sell Micah because he has a great future here. Whatever offers come in for him, it is going to take a ridiculously big offer to get him out of this football club.I would love to see Micah stay here, captain the club, and maybe be here for 10 years and carry the club on his back if he can. He is good enough to do it. I have not worked with anyone so good and so young.". He was rewarded with the number 2 shirt for the 2006-07 season, a traditional first team number, rather than the number 45 he wore in 2005-06.

Richards lost his temper with his manager Stuart Pearce in front of Sky TV cameras after he was substituted during the Blues' 1-0 defeat at the Madejski Stadium against Reading on September 11, 2006. The teenage defender had to be calmed down by Paul Dickov after hurling his shirt out of the dug-out and following it up with a volley of abuse.

Richards' second City goal was also an injury time equaliser - this time in a 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park on September 30, 2006. He started the 2007-2008 playing at centre-back. He put in a man of the match performance against Manchester United on the August 19, 2007. This prompted extremely high praise not only from the English media, but more importantly from his boss, former England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson.

He captained the team for the first time on the September 16, 2007 against Aston Villa in the absence of team mate Richard Dunne, possibly making Richards the youngest ever City first team captain, beating the 21-year-old Steve Redmond.

Gerard Piqué

Full name - Gerard Piqué Bernabeu
Date of birth - February 2, 1987 (age 21)
Place of birth - Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain
Height - 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in)
Playing position - Centre Back/Right Back

Gerard Piqué Bernabeu (born 2 February 1987 in Barcelona) is a Spanish football player. He was purchased by Manchester United from FC Barcelona B on 1 July 2004 then in the 2006-07 season loaned out to Real Zaragoza. He made his first appearance with Manchester United on 26 October 2004 against Crewe Alexandra. He has also played for the Spanish U17 and U19 teams.

The fact that Piqué's surname is 'Bernabeu' has led to some confusion regarding his origins, as shares his name with the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid. The discrepancy arises from the fact that the stadium was named in honour of Santiago Bernabéu, a former President of the Madrid club. In fact, the name Bernabeu is Catalan in origin and well spread in Barcelona. Piqué (another typical Catalan surname) is a grandson of the celebrated former vice-president of FC Barcelona, Amador Bernabeu.

Piqué made his Premiership bow in October as a late replacement for John O'Shea, in a 3-1 victory at Sunderland. He made his full debut for Manchester United on 29 March 2006 against West Ham in a Premier League game at Old Trafford playing at right-back, as Gary Neville was unavailable through injury. He even managed to get a shot on goal from 40 yards out which was saved to stop Gerard scoring on his full Premiership début.

His performances, most notably in the reserve team, have earned him a new contract, signed in February 2005 to run until the summer of 2009.

Piqué was a member of the Spanish under 19 side that won the Uefa Under-19 Championship on 29 July. They beat Scotland U19 2-1 in the final with Piqué putting in a strong performance in defence, hitting the crossbar with a header, and also providing his team's second goal for teammate Alberto Bueno.

On 4 August 2006, Spanish La Liga outfit Real Zaragoza secured Piqué on a season-long loan. The conditions of the loan involved Piqué having to feature in at least 20 games for the Estadio La Romareda outfit.

On 5 May 2007, it was announced that Piqué would be staying at Old Trafford next season. It was intended for Sir Alex Ferguson to be at La Romareda to watch Piqué play on 6 May, in an effort to gauge the youngster's progress, before having a meeting with the player to discuss his future with Man Utd, but this was unable to take place, due to problems with flights.

He has since returned to Manchester United and is a member of the first team making 6 appearances so far this season.

He scored on his first start in the Champions League in a 4-0 win against Dynamo Kiev played on 7 November 2007 at Old Trafford, Piqué scored the first of Manchester United's 4 goals in that match. In doing so, he became the 450th Manchester United player to score at least one goal for the club.

Following his first goal for the club, Pique got his second in another Champions League match, this time, away at Roma on December 12.

Both good promising players imo, Richards is overpriced though, from what i heard City would ask for 20M Euros for his services.

Yeah they want 20mln but considering Barzagli`s price is ~15mln probably I don`t think it`s much for him.

I think both of them are good but I`d prefer Richards over Piqué.

£20 is probably our budget for next season, including salaries. We're sticking to freebies for the majority of our signings unfortunatley.

Where did you get that from? The budget was announced much larger than that.

They said it will be around 50 M€ and add to that the players we will sell.
Yeah that news appeared like week ago or something like that but I am not sure if it`s true.

anyway when we sell some players we`ll have much more.

Isn't Richards something like the next big thing in England among the defenders ? A regular in the English NT.
What are the chances the other English giants letting an outsider like Juve getting one of their hottest prospects ?

Exactly. Plus his price will go through the roof, because he is actually good, unlike other hyped young English players.

my only thought is do english players really perform in serie a?
    how many have tried though?

    Gazza recieved a terrible injury
Sharpe is just a terrible player
David Platt did quite well if i remember correctly, as did Paul Elliot.
Paul Ince played well but struggled a lot with racism and eventually didnt really adjust to the italian lifestyle, if i remember correctly.

I too have major doubts about English players abroad, they don't seem to have the right mentality to adjust to a new lifestyle i think that possibly has to do with British culture with being so different from European and the fact that most Brits (especially english) tend to think that the whole world revolves round Britain (england).

Having said that i think it comes down to character and i think someone like Terry or Rooney would be a success in Italy. IMO Richards seems like a mature young guy and could settle in. But i doubt Juve will really go for him and at £20m it doesnt really make much sense.
