06/06/2004. Roma's squad rebuilding project could get underway early next week with the signings of Philippe Mexes and Matteo Ferrari.
Mexes has held talks with the club, and the only stumbling block appears to be the £5.6 million price-tag that his club Auxerre have put on his head.
Roma are only willing to pay around £3.5 million. Mexes is currently involved in a contract dispute with the French club, and believes he can buy-out his contract for £3 million. If Roma make an offer of somewhere in-between the two figures, they should get their man.
Meanwhile, Matteo Ferrari has acknowledged that Roma are in talks with his club Parma over a possible transfer.
