Metallica released their fist single from the new album - "The Day That Never Comes".

"The Day That Never Comes" is described as the most downbeat track on Death Magnetic, and is said to be reminiscent of Metallica's epic breakthrough single "One," which won a Grammy Award in 1990. Like previous ballads and downbeat songs by Metallica, including "One", "Fade to Black", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", "The Unforgiven", "Until it Sleeps" and "The Unforgiven II", it is the fourth track of the album. Rock Sound has also compared the song to the likes of Thin Lizzy.[3] The intro starts out with clean guitars that carry into the verses, while the choruses are backed with heavily distorted guitars. The bridge speeds up gradually and eventually leads into fast paced harmony between the guitars and a long guitar solo by Hammett, as per usual, a build-up comparable to that of "One" and "Fade to Black".

For me, still, it's not the old Metallica.
What do you think?

Very boring and predictable. You can't keep on recycling the same old stuff forever. They should have broke up after Jason Newsted left in 2001.

This sound is like a bad copy of a Black Sabbath song and nothing more. I expect the other songs to be better than this.

Some of the old stuff is good and they should be thanked for it, but their new material pretty much sucks. I've never really liked Metallica and I think only a select few of their songs are good anyway (even if those are great).

you guys are haters, while this album might suck i will never get tired of the old stuff, never
He's right. Metallica's old material is the best thrash metal I have ever listened to, besides Megadeth and Slayer.
For me Metallica is just the Metallica between the years 1983-1989 (the Black Album sucks). Everything after that is carp.

Give chance to this album (although I'm tired of giving them chances). They said it's gonna be something between AJFA and The Black Album, according to this single, I can see what they talked about, although it's pretty much shitty.

I agree with Bes.Even though i dont like Metallica as much as i like some other bands, but everything till The Black Album was seriously badass.Kirk Hammet pulled off some of the most amazing guitar work i've heard.

Iron Maiden IMO,are the only old school rock band that still sound great today with new material.

There are some bands that after some good works, become comercial and work for companies.well for companies and for money !
thats different from bands like linkin park that were shit from the begining.

for example moonspell was a great gothic metal band,
one of the amazing bands that i ever saw, their music got its own value and charactrestics, but they were unknown,

now u can see they are in music channels,in music chartes, mtv perfom the biggest concert in history of portugal for them and they won a lot of awards !

    but now,
the music sucks, cuz they have to make it fast and with MTV standards.which make them something like "pop metal" in my idea !

It's about more than the just the corporate factor IMO.Yes there's more money in the industry now,but it's got something to do with a musician/band's life too.I think a lot of these old rockers have simply ran out of fuel. They've done all they could, written all they could, played all the could..and now they're empty. They're dragging on just for the sake of it.
