You're greatly underestimating the value of this deal. On his day, Benatia is pretty much as good a defender as you'll find, and close to Ogbonna money? That is simply genius. You have a readymade replacement for any of our CBs with an experienced, used to the pressure type defender. Having Roma and Munchen in his past, will only help him settle at a team like ours. And he's probably the only available defender out there that can slot into this defense with the kind of expectations we have off it. Him being injury prone perhaps also had to do with his under utilisation in Munich. This guy at 18m, if he can find his rhythm again will be a genius acquisition, and will likely settle in the Serie A since he's experienced it before. Our team bringing out the best of him is a matter of time, and not question of quality. Rhythmn and consistency is key, but where better to find that, than the team with the best defense in the world?

Injuries and different system in Pep approach doesnt change a players quality, just needs little time and should be back to his esteemed self. The one that was up there with Thiago Silva and Barzagli was total shut down mode defenders at the time.

Younger is criteria to trump quality on his own how? And yeah his injury record is a worry, but not defenite one, more of constant niggling injuries instead of big career altering one. Hopefully can be helped with new invironment, he didnt have this issue in Roma. Plus he would be one of 5 CBs so we have time to wait for him to get going.
