Wasn’t Kean preferred to Icardi by poch last season at PSG and probably got more minutes?
The season they shared at PSG was the season that Icardi was injured a bunch. Looking at transfermarkt, Icardi played every Ligue 1 and CL match he was available for except for 2.

So Kean did play more minutes, but it looks like Icardi being injured had a lot to do with that. In that season their scoring rate was the same too, a goal every 130 minutes.

Icardi is an upgrade because he scores more. They are center forwards. We need them to score and Icardi is much better at that. Morata has some nice attributes but its been shown time and time again that he isn't a great scorer, and at the moment what we need is a scorer.

Morata is not better enough at other aspects of the game to warrant having him over someone like Icardi.

Icardi is an ass but he is a better player and certainly a better scorer.

On the most superficial level we can look at stats. Icardi 2020/21 doesn't fit at PSG, is unsettled, and yet he still scores more than Morata.
ammm no he doesnt...

These are the numbers from last two seasons

You could argue that Icardi has played less than Morata, but if you take the "Goal Average" from Icardi and multiply it to match Morata's games, Icardi would still have scored less than Morata (67*0,375 = 25 goals) or if you want, the other way arround, take Morata's Goal Average and multiply it to match Icardi's games (48*0,402 = 19 goals)... Morata would have still scored more than Icardi...

And take in consideration that Icardi plays IN FRANCE with world class players in his team and Morata has to play with our midfield...

you could also take it another way, Icardi has people he is expected to pass to. Morata has nobody

And still Morata has more assists than Icardi ;)
assists is a funny metric, because its only the last pass before the goal, it doesnt factor in build-up or hold-up play very well.
im not an Icardi fan boy in the slightest, I was thrilled with bringing Morata back, but he is such a dumb player and falls overat the slightest (sometimes non-existant) touch rather than actually trying to use his talent

 at thinking Icardi touches the ball anywhere outside rhe penalty area. His heat map you just looked at shows he rarely leaves that area of the pitch. He isn’t involved in the build up like Morata, he’s slow as fuck and doesn’t press like Morata, he doesn’t ever track back unlike Morata, and he scores at a marginally better rate while playing in a far superior team for creating good chances. While having a worse minutes/ goal or assist rate. 110 minutes/goal or assist for Icardi vs 105 minutes for Morata.

Morty can get the fuck out, but Icardi isn’t better in the slightest.

So prime Icardi had the same scoring rate as 20 year old Moise Kean, who most of this forum seems to think sucks. And we’re supposed to be excited about Icardi.

Oh, and this year, going by the idea that Kean is a flop, Icardi is worse in a much better team. Kean is 180 minutes/ goal. Icardi is 186 minutes/goal. And we should want to “upgrade” to 29 year old Icardi. Lol

At this point I couldn’t care less about whether we keep Morata for 6 months or get Icardi for 6 months. It’s like choosing between a punch in the face or a kick in the balls. Neither player is going to turn our season around and neither of them are the long term future of the club.

Comparing their stats as well just proves both are pretty much past it. But what is more concerning is the complete lack of planning from our management team. We seem to now have been caught out by Morata wanting to leave now that he knows he doesn’t have a future and yet again we make a knee jerk reaction

one thing we have not argued is what we need, and that is somebody to be in the fucking box. how many times have we made an excellent counter attack and had nobody waiting to receive the ball. Dybala is floating around the half way line for some unknown reason. Morata is out left for some reason or so close to the back post that it has no hope of reaching him.

Morata is a great goal scorer with his head, but all he wants to do nowadays is run at the keeper, make the angle as tight as possible then hit the side netting.

We need somebody to be an outlet, to distract the defenders and to get shitty tap ins from our outside of the box shots that miraculously dont hit row Z

But Icardi isn’t that. His goal rate is worse than Moise Kean over the past two years. He doesn’t offer shit, he’s 29 years old in a month, and has spent 4 years now getting worse and worse since his peak.
